Wasn't the "conflict of interest "purpose to prevent politicians from taking advantage of their position? This is the first time I recall ever having a president who is not a long-term politician. The conflicts of interest should have been brought out during the campaign, with President Trump's unpopularity, we can ask why didn't the Democrats and the Republicans deal with this before he was elected president? Now, it's like closing the gate after the horse got out, and it's one more thing for us to argue when we have no control. President Trump does not fit the profile of any preceding president. I would think that something like having the Department of Justice oversee his dealings while he's President might be a good solution until something more appropriate can be done.
