The key element of the executive order that must be opposed relates to refugees. The public debate conflates refugees with immigrants and plays upon emotions around immigration. Refugees are fleeing war and terrorism, are typically women and children and undergo extreme vetting now before admission. Whatever one's views may be on immigration, please we must not lose compassion for those simply trying to escape harm and who have undergone 18 months or more of vetting. One can be in favor of stricter immigration without crushing the lives of the limited number of refugees in the queue to become Americans. Moreover, there is a distinct difference between legally seeking entry and illegal immigration. All of this disregards that the real motivation here is religious intolerance, which is in antithetical to American principles and possibly renders the entirety of the Executive Order unconstitutional. The order should be opposed.
