As a charter school educator, and parent of a disabled child, I ask you not to confirm Betsy DeVos as Education Secretary. Charter schools can be an excellent alternative for students whose needs are not being met in their neighborhood schools. But all schools who receive public funding must comply with federal laws such as IDEA, which Ms. DeVos seems less familiar with than she should be in this position. It concerns me greatly that she lacks even base experience with public schools, even as a parent, much less as a educator. I am also concerned about some of her responses in the hearings. She seems unwilling to share her intentions, and doesn't seem very well informed in the area she is proposed to lead.
