    Since most of these statues were put in place in the 20th century, these were clearly intended to intimidate Afro-Americans in a time that also saw lynchings happening across the country. Just why these statues, portraying members of a military intent on damaging the US, are held in such reverence is, and should be, a mystery. The current administration may well dedicate statues to nazi war heroes next, and that will make as much sense as the Confederate statues do. I ask that my senators and US representative do everything in their power to block any legislation designed to protect these statues.
