    The punishment should fit the crime however the ultimate beneficiary of these crimes should be prosecuted to the maximum extent of the law. Prosecution of public officials complicit in these crimes, regardless of their status, must be held accountable if we are to have faith in the laws of this country. When we dilute them because of political considerations we undermine the rule of law and precipitate new malfeasance to obscure the original crime. This can have a destabilizing effect upon the economy and national security, which at its core is accountable to the ‘people’ who constitute the citizens of the country.
