NEW YORK: ACTION TO TAKE NOW TO KILL THE TAX BILL. The spotlight now turns to House members who will need to decide how they will vote on a final bill. The best cudgel we have with Republican congressmen in the New York metropolitan area is the end of the SALT deduction (state and local income tax). They recognize it too. Some of these members--there are 4--were given a pass by Ryan and voted against the bill in its first iteration. But they will be under enormous pressure to vote yes on the final version. WE NEED TO KEEP UP THE PRESSURE AND REMIND THEM THAT VOTING FOR THE TAX BILL WILL BE THE END OF THEIR CAREERS; THEY WILL LOSE IN 2018 IF THEY VOTE FOR THE BILL. In addition, we need to call our own representative--Elliot Engel. Yes, he has been a stalwart in opposing the bill. But we want him to draw a clearer line between the passage of this tax bill and the coming cuts to Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid. He should be vocal about that and he should encourage his Democratic colleagues to do the same. Phone Numbers: Daniel Donovan, Jr.(R)--Staten Island--202-225-3371 Peter King (R)---Nassau County--202--225-7896 John Faso (R)--Upper Hudson Valley--202-225-5614 Lee Zeldin (R)--Suffolk County--202-225-3826 Elliot Engel (D)--16th District, which includes Scarsdale--202-225-2464
