Honoring the Life and Achievements of Prince

Argument in favor

This honor is fitting for Prince, who leaves behind countless grieving fans and a lasting cultural legacy.

It would be a nice gesture to commemorate the positive impact he had on our culture with his ingenuity and creativity. I'm not saying he needs a holiday, but to honor him with an official recognition would do no one any harm.

Art is as important as any other issue. It is only right that we honor those who inspired us and challenged us.

Artists have always been the beating heart of any nation. Prince left an indelible mark on the American musical landscape. To not honor him would be a travesty

Argument opposed

Honorary resolutions like this mean well, but serve as a distraction from Congress’ real work.

I ADORED Prince. But this sort of thing is insane! Pass a budget. Fix the infrastructure! Fix the immigration system. Quit pretending to work while judging people who work hard & can't make ends meet!. You personify the term DEADBEAT!

Its official! Congress is retarded! Let the various music organizations celebrate and honor his memory. How about you legislate the country? The job you were elected to do!

So this is hard as I loved Prince. But the best way to honor him is by continuing to fund the National Endowment for the Arts as I'm sure he'd agree. His fans, the music industry, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have all honored him, as it should be. Fund the Arts.

We have many things at hand that are very important. I respect Prince, but congress has better things to worry about that are actually important to all of Americans.

No but the government should be outing more efforts to stop the growing opiate problem in this country. If it ruined Prince's life it will ruin anybody's.

What about a budget, a Supreme Court judge, immigration reform, criminal justice reform, campaign financing reform, reestablishing the VRA? Stop wasting my money on these 'feel good' bills.

If Prince is to be honored it should be by his fans and the music industry.

That's not their job. That's not legislation, and it would be a waste of taxpayer dollars.

This is just not the job of the government, especially Congress. Let's leave knighting to the Brits. They're much better at it than we are.

He is just a flawed man, just like the rest of us. How about we start honoring God again?

As great of a musician as he may have been, what are we honoring? The fact that he died because of a drug overdose? Not to mention why is this even an issue that we are perusing through one of the highest groups in the nation. It's trivial and they have much larger issues to handle.

Another "circus" proposal by those who are not doing their jobs. This man, his history and his legacy is already being celebrated around the country. You don't need to spend our tax dollars, to do the same. You are attempting to distract the public so we stay unaware of your agenda. It's not working.

Celebrate the drug induced death of a drug addict? Prince had the time and money to solve/save his life. He chose neither. We need addicted role models to guide our children on what Not to do in their lives.
