senate Bill S. Res. 212

Should the Senate Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage?

Argument in favor

Women getting the right to vote was an important moment in American history, and the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment deserves to be commemorated by Congress. Since the House has already passed its own resolution to this effect, the Senate should follow in its footsteps and pass this resolution.

It would be great if they respected all of women’s rights rather than just the vote.

Yes! And let’s celebrate by banning men’s intrusion into women’s healthcare!

Yes this a mile stone that should be celebrated! Too many women take this for granted and we still struggle for equal rights and control of our own bodies.

Argument opposed

Rather than wasting its time passing this resolution that doesn’t do anything, the Senate should focus its efforts on passing legislation that carries on the 19th Amendment’s legacy of using legislation to change women’s lives for the better.

Yes, this is a milestone in women's rights, and it's significant that in the first 100+ years of this country women were refused equal rights to vote and participate in government. I think the Senate should mark this milestone and express how important it is to give all Americans the equal, uninhibited right to vote as a mark of our citizenship.

Celebrate? Of course. We need to remember that women are important. Our rights are important. Our voice is important. But the Senate does not need a day off for this. Instead, work to promote organizations which help women. ESPECIALLY Planned Parenthood.

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment by protecting women’s rights & bodily autonomy. Protect our right to choose what happens to OUR bodies. Not the crime against humanity that is forced pregnancy, unconstitutionally forcing women to use their uterus to support a life as you would never of it were a kidney or heart. Do you have a heart at all?

I think it is important that the Senate at least endorse the fact that once in history our country recognized women's rights. If they do not, it would certainly show that the pale-old-men- dominated Senators to be the hypocrites that they, by their actions, appear to be.

The celebration should include not only honoring women’s right to vote, but be marked by cessation of the war on women’s health including the right to choose.

While staying mum as Roe v Wade is trampled? Sure, why not. What’s wrong with a little more hypocrisy at this point?

Yeah, and you know a great way to celebrate? Ratify the ERA so American women have equal rights under the law in this country! We’ve only waited since 1776.

Absolutely. I can't even believe this is question. If women's suffrage is not celebrated then women and marginalized groups should March on Washington to remind our legislators that we are a significant part of the population and we matter.
