senate Bill S. Joint Res. 8

Should Congress Call for a ‘Green New Deal’ to Fight Climate Change and Income Inequality?

Argument in favor

Climate change and income inequality are two of the greatest threats facing America. Enacting a massive transformation of our society like this Green New Deal is the best way to achieve that, not only through cutting emissions, investing in clean energy, and upgrading infrastructure but by guaranteeing economic security for all Americans — particularly those from vulnerable communities. This may be a non-binding resolution, but its passage would be a positive step toward the realization of a Green New Deal.

Climate change is national issue, a worldly issue and we must do something to fix it , even if it is deemed “drastic” . Drastic saves the planet.

Argument opposed

The Green New Deal suggested by this resolution is a massive transformation of our society that comes with tremendous costs. It sets unrealistic goals like eliminating all energy derived from fossil fuel & nuclear power while upgrading or replacing every building in America over the course of a decade. Beyond fantastical environmental goals, it also calls for fundamentally expanding the role of government by calling for guaranteed family-wage jobs for all. Alternatively, this bill is non-binding and wouldn’t make any real progress in achieving its stated goals.

Climate change is a farce, and as long as china continues to pollute to A level in which its residents must wear masks outside, nothing we do here will matter. Her deal is nothing more than a vote grab.. it attracts 20 yr old morons, too stuck on the idea to realize it will NEVER happen, and when it goes south the ones in power won't hesitate to hang her out to dry.

There is no proof that we have the answer to the so-called human responsibility climate change. Climate changes, it is a natural occurrence that has happened throughout the life of our planet.

As far as the Green New Deal, vote no on this bill. The US is a world leader in renewable energy and fighting climate change. We are doing our part in this fight. It’s the other major polluting countries that need to reign in their emissions and work towards clean energy. We can’t do it all alone!!

Do we like breathing? Do we like eating? Do we like drinking? Of course we do, however, the Congress Critters and Senile Senators still think we can do all these things in future without changing a thing....WRONG!!! I guess they and their families have a top secret biodome located in a secret location for them to live in in 15 years or so. The Earth is about to shrug off the entire human species and/or most of the flora/fauna on this planet like an elephant shrugs off fleas. The Earth is literally fighting for its life BECAUSE OF US. Because of GREED, because of perceived POWER, because of our unconstrained and corporate condoned CONSUMPTION. Oh, and let us not forget our worldwide uncontained reproduction of replecants of our species to the point there are now 7.5 BILLION people on this planet and Mother is tired, worn out and pissed off. We do not need more drilling, more fracking, more plastics or more pollution. WE NEED RENEWABLES. Not tomorrow or in 50 years or so. We need them NOW!

Gee, Mitch McConnell, the Republican that support coal and bad mouth the people that supports green new deal, is doing about face and joining the Democratic? This is a political move to save his position in the senate and saying he is helping KY. I wonder if KY will fall for it and how many more republicans will do the same? I guess doing nothing is not a solution?

We must start somewhere-and start quickly. I think we expect candidates in office to recruit and vet practitioners and policies that aim toward a solution in a jobs-generating, economic revolutionary manner. The technology is there, the experts are there, and the jobs core is present. Maybe they could tackle the real crisis and stop whining about putting a mote around the country.

Another attempt by Democrats to look good but this is not reality! This would be another way to destroy our economy and for Democrats to seize power as socialist and removes the freedoms of all Americans. They don’t care about the people they just care about the power they will have. It’s another democrat Trojan horse.

Absolutely yes! How did we even arrive to a place where short-sighted, unaccountable, & reckless behavior that fails to consider our well-being in the long-term, ever become the norm? It's time to GROW UP AMERICA! The childish excuses carry no merit! If America is doing so "great" as some claim, we are WAY PAST DUE for cleaning up after ourselves & behaving like rational adults vs. idiotic children who lack the ability to plan for the future. Enough is enough, already!

This is a real and serious issue that the GOP is playing with for 2020 political points. Shame on their denials threatening the country and our grandchildren and shame on them for trying to play tricks to gain votes!

Yes and No. This is a 2 parts question with just 1 answer. Yes, I agree to “cutting emissions, investing in clean energy, and upgrading infrastructure “. that will take some time and cost to do. But I don’t agree to “ guaranteeing economic security for all Americans.” That sounds absolutely ridiculous.

I think that action needs to be taken now. Non-renewable energy sources such as fossil fuels will be gone within the next 50 years. While this deal is extremely expensive, it will save us a lot of money in the long run when we run out of the resources that we have become so dependent on.
