senate Bill S. 939

Should Money Seized From Drug Cartels Like “El Chapo” Go to Funding the Border Wall?

Argument in favor

By using assets forfeited by El Chapo and other members of drug cartels to fund the border wall, American taxpayers won’t have to foot the bill.

04/29/2017
Democrats/leftist have no leg to stand on for not supporting Ted Cruz's bill. El Chapo crossed the border illegally, so it's a perfect way to serve justice and build a wall. And for those saying "Oh why don't we put this money into infrastructure or education or healthcare? I think the answer to every problem is big government." To that I say the government's main purpose is to protect and insure domestic tranquility. Not to brainwash children while they're still in elementary school. Lastly the wall is going to be a lot like the one in Israel, which is high tech and has kept radical Palestinians out.

ABSOLUTELY!! I love Sen. Ted Cruz's idea of making the drug lords such as El Chapo accomplish something good for our national security. You might call it poetic justice! This measure, plus H.R. 1813 - To amend the Electronic Fund Transfer Act to impose a fee for remittance transfers to certain foreign countries - SHOULD be passed with bipartisan support. These are brilliant solutions for funding the wall! BUILD THE WALL AND LET'S START TAKING BACK OUR COUNTRY!

Argument opposed

No matter where the money comes from, a border wall and enhanced security measures on the U.S.-Mexico border are unnecessary.

It doesn't matter where the money comes from. A wall on the border is STUPID!!! Do you really think that will stop drugs and illegal immigration?? Do you think people just walk across now in plain sight and no one stops them?? No! They have a myriad of ways to cross without being seen. If you want to spend seized drug money on something, how about educational and social programs that will allow people to have options other than feeling like they need to escape reality by using drugs in the first place?!?!?! Just say no didn't work in the 80's and a wall won't work now!

Why don't we invest it into our nation's infrastructure? Or healthcare? Or education? This is bullshit.

A border wall will not stem the flow of illegal drugs into this country. However, using money seized from kingpins like El Chapo to fund proven drug rehabilitation programs could help lessen the opioid crisis in the U.S. The money should not go to the wall, as the wall would be an ineffective waste of resources and should not be built.

A wall is completely unnecessary! Why don't we use that kind of money to shelter the homeless? Feed the starving? Things that are IMPORTANT.

Put money from convicted felons into education and healthcare, not on expanding an already existing wall. If we learned anything from El Chapo, wasn't it that they find ways around, over, or under walls? He was responsible for the "super tunnel" trend we are still fighting to this day.

The border wall is not necessary and it is going to go through private land and harm many animals. I don't care where the money comes from I am against the border wall.

How about rehabilitation programs and education. Most drug addicts get hooked in drugs because of despair. The money seized from drug cartels should help strengthen the social net which in turn will create less drug addicts. It's a long term solution instead of the populist short term ones our politicians love.

No, we should not be building a wall. If you want to stop and hurt the cartels business, legalize marijuana and this will hurt them more than the proposed wall could.

That funding should be used for everyone. Infrastructure, education, healthcare, climate science, funding Planned Parenthood, transitioning to green energy, programs for veterans, funding addiction programs, helping the undocumented become citizens, programs for prison reform, and like Oprah says " YOU GET HEALTHCARE! and YOU GET HEALTHCARE! and YOU GET HEALTHCARE! EVERYONE GETS HEALTHCARE!!!

No amount of money should go toward "the wall". We, as a nation, have so many infrastructure issues to address; why not allocate these funds to something useful like after school programs?

Take that blood money and actually do something useful with it besides building an idiotic wall that won't be anything except a monument to Trump's stupidity. Our infrastructure is crumbling. Trump himself thinks so, so why not start there?

No wall should be built, period! Anything confiscated from a drug cartel should be invested in rehabilitation programs for addicts or victims of drug-related crimes.

Yes please!! I don't want American taxpayers paying for the wall and this is the best option. So many countries have walls. To all the people saying it won't work, so many drug lords come through over the border. They don't go under it through tunnels as much as the left says they do. The wall is like $20+ billion and this is perfect to set it up. THE VERY DRUG LORDS WHO WE ARE TRYING TO KEEP OUT WILL BE THE ONES PAYIBG FOR IT. ITS BRILLIANT
