senate Bill S. 758

Should Federal Tax Dollars Fund Abortions?

Argument in favor

Abortion coverage for women who receive their health coverage from the federal government is a matter of public health and reproductive rights. Blocking federal funding for abortion disproportionately hurts low-income and minority women as well as women in D.C., the military and the Peace Corps.

Abortions still take place even when it’s illegal. The only difference is safety. If the Supreme Court overturns Roe vs. Wade , women of means will still be getting safe abortions. Women who are poor, minorities, rape survivors, abused and very young will be at highest risk for botched abortions. These are the very people our government should be helping the most.

Healthcare is healthcare. “Don’t wanna pay for murder” 🤣🤣🙄 Me either. We should stop electing warmongering psychos, stop the four unauthorized wars, and quit fueling the Yemen genocide. 6 kids have died in the ICE concentration camps. We pay for lots of murder, and abortion ain’t any of it.

The Hyde amendment needs to be repealed! The reproductive rights of women is a matter of societal health, therefore the government should fund it!

Argument opposed

Preventing federal dollars’ use for abortion funding is an important free speech protection for those who oppose abortion on religious or personal grounds. Using taxpayer money to fund abortion would necessarily mean that all Americans, regardless of personal beliefs, would be involved in enabling abortion — violating abortion opponents’ free speech rights.

If you want the government to stay out of your decision to have a baby or not then why do you want the government to pay for you to kill your baby? Also, FYI the government doesn’t pay for it, the tax payers do, so no, don’t make me pay for you to kill your baby because you made a bad decision to have unprotected sex.

America’s tax dollars SHOULD go towards funding the needs of the people. Improving the well-being of the people -measured by SEDA- SHOULD be the indicators driving growth NOT THE BOTTOM LINE OF REPUBLICAN 1%ers. This means tax dollars spending goes towards healthcare (including abortion), education, infrastructure, and improving other measures of Americans’ well-being. Achieving rapid economic growth in terms of GDP is a limited measure of a country’s development success. Numerous groups from UNDP to OECD to national statistical offices and civil society organizations have proposed or developed broader measures of development. We must focus on value of making evidence-based decisions from conception into the early years of childhood, and beyond. I have felt for a long time that this is counter to the welfare of lower income women, often minorities, who have not got the means to protect themselves. I agree that all efforts need to be made to expand access to all forms of reproductive health care for all women, including abortion and birth control access, as part of a larger expansion of affordable health care.

A woman has the right to choose how she wants to proceed with her body and health. Period. Don’t say “not with my tax dollars,” I don’t have any kids but my money is paying for public school. I’ve been lucky enough in life that I haven’t had to utilize any police services, but my tax dollars pay for that too. let women choose. Protect Roe v Wade.

An abortion is a medical procedure, not a religious one. Believers in Dominionist and other religious groups take tax dollars or don’t pay taxes at all for programs that I would not support. Keep your religious oppression and desire for a Theocracy to yourselves.

Medicare, medicaid, and all insurance should cover healthcare. Abortions are healthcare. Pretty simple math.

Absolutely not. This is disgusting. The federal government should not pay to murder children. And to cover the argument everyone makes about it, no I don’t think viagra should be funded either.

Yes, because it's at least reassuring that the abortions are funded by places that can do them safely. The war on those who can birth children assures greater danger to all involved. This is especially galling in the sense that this very administration tries to decry big government but has no issues with passing laws over birth givers. Keep the laws off our bodies. Period.

If we cover the cost of erectile dysfunction meds for men who can longer perform on their own we should cover abortions. Both are acts of God so since ok to cover one only makes sense to cover both.

Abortion is healthcare. Folks who get their healthcare through Medicare, Medicaid or other subsidized programs deserve access to all healthcare, including abortion. Let’s be honest: the wealthy will always have access to abortion, no matter what. It’s those living in poverty and marginalized communities who feel the effects (up to and including death) when abortion access is restricted. And for many people a lack of insurance coverage means abortion is out of the question.

NO! Not just because I am pro life. That in itself is enough for me to say no, but I also don’t want my taxpayer dollars paying for someone else’s medical expenses.

I support Senate Bill S. 758 for the government to fund abortions. People who don't like abortion can keep their own kids, just don't force your opinions and silly Sharia-like beliefs on others. Abortion is a healthcare issue, not a political issue, and it should be free and open. The baby effectively does not exist until it is determined to be viable outside the womb.

Healthcare is healthcare. This is a health related issue. I would rather see medical care and trained practitioners than illegal, medically harmful practices that threatens future health.
