senate Bill S. 720

Should the U.S. Oppose Politically-Motivated Boycotts of Israel by International Organizations?

Argument in favor

The U.S. should use its diplomatic and economic position to oppose efforts to boycott, divest from, or sanction Israel — which is the best ally America has in the Middle East.

It doesn't suspend the first amendment since it doesn't infringe upon the rights of the American citizens, it only deals with IGO's and non-American entities, and we need to support Israel, they are not apartheid but instead a democratic and free state that is surrounded by a sea of enemies

Absolutely. Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East. Israel is our longest and strongest ally in the region. Anyone, any organization and any nation that wishes harm against Israel is wishing harm against the United States of America.

The US government should not subsizdize discrimination against the world's only Jewish state. Additionally, this bill would not infringe on anyone's 1A rights. Feel free to boycott Israel, just understand that the US won't subsidize such discriminatory behavior. Besides, it should be made clear that boycotting Israel does nothing to improve the lives of Palestinins, and fails brings the two sides closer to an agreement that would establish an independent state of Palestine.

Argument opposed

The U.S. should allow American companies to boycott Israel without any punishment. Economic pressure is the only way the Israeli government will change its policy in Palestine.

Absolutely not! This bill is a violation of the first amendment. If any person or business wants to participate in a boycott of Israel then that is their right. The only way that we're going to get Israel to change its policy in the Palestinian Territories is to put economic pressure on them. The U.S. can't keep giving all this support to Israel and assume that they'll change their attitude to the Palestinians.

Boycotting is a form of free non-violent expression. Israel should not be exempt from that.

To oppose the genocide of Palestinians by Israel is no more anti-Semitic than it is anti-American to demonstrate for the protection of our civil rights. The first amendment protects our right to free speech and encourages active civil disobedience to protect the good of all. Of course this profoundly corrupt White House and Cabinet wants to oppose Human Rights in the same way it opposes Ethics. Imagining oligarchs, plutocrats, and corporations to be the only real human beings who have any real rights fits into their world view perfectly. Palestinians are being treated exactly the way the USA treated the Native Indians here--crowded, no civil rights, land grab after land grab, broken promises, violence, oppression. To oppose Human Rights is a new low.

Israel or any other country should be subject to any consequences of their actions including financial pressure by those who disagree with actions. Our unique nurturing relationship should not provide them any special protections that we would not provide to a different country.

What is this Orwellian thought police nonsense?? Israel is an apartheid state. Everyone knows it. Suppressing the truth doesn't make it any less true.

Isrrael is a friend and is treated unfriendly by the world and faces constant anti-Semitism from its surrounding Islamic neighbors. We cannot turn our back on our Jewish brothers and sisters in Israel and should stand by them and oppose any attempt to hurt them.

Boycotts are a means of protest and democracies do not stop cotizens and NGOs from participating in free-speech.

We must stand by Israel! We are codependent in many valuable areas. They wouldn't betray us. We should never betray them. Please vote to block any U.S. company from boycotting by any legal means available to us.

Israel is not only a successful democracy, it is a country that thrives on innovation and entrepreneurship. It also has a history of respecting minority people such as LGBT, atheist and others that would have trouble staying alive in Palestine.

Not only has Israel done many bad things when it comes to Palestine and other nearby nations, but this is also a clear violation of the First Amendment. No!

They should join in!! Israel is practicing war crimes and human rights abuse and they won't stop unless we too say "Hey cut it out"!! If they need our tax dollars, they should hear our pleas too!

Absolutely. The US needs to fight such blatant anti-Semitism. We must not support this kind of racism. Racism is not a 1st Amendment issue. Also, Israel is the only ally we have in the Middle East.
