Requiring a criminal background check for all gun sales is the single most effective policy for keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous people and saving lives. But currently, background checks are only required under federal law for sales conducted by licensed dealers. This lets criminals and other prohibited purchasers acquire guns — often from strangers met online or at gun shows — without a background check, no questions asked.

Millions of guns are sold every year in “no questions asked” transactions. Experts estimate that 40 percent of guns now sold in America are done so without a Brady background check. It’s time for Congress to finish the job and expand Brady background checks to stop criminals and other dangerous people from getting guns in America.

Simple background checks should be MANDATORY for all gun and ammo purchases.

One step toward sane gun policy. It is tragic that this congress has put politics before the lives of the citizens—citizens who pay taxes and vote their representatives in and out of office, expect them to grow a pair and hold them accountable for countless innocent deaths. Members of congress: how will history judge your stance on firearms?

Federal back round checks are in place. No need to expand this to ammunition. The gun show/internet sales portion is a MYTH. Everything has to go through an FFL to be purchased.

Guns do have background checks. Ammo background checks would be a back door attempt to make guns less effective. Can't discharge a weapon without ammo. By the way, removing all sources gasoline will certainly have an effect on air pollution. But then government employees would have to walk or ride bicycles. But again breathing produces carbon dioxide, a green house gas.

Often times the same people for extreme vetting of immigrants and refugees, do not believe America should take the time and look into who is purchasing guns and ammo; weirdly hypocritical, and proven fatal.

I support any reasonable legislation that limits the public's access to firearms.

What exactly will background checks for ammunition purchases hope to accomplish? This is a complete nonsense bill designed to make people feel better while having no tangible effects on crime.

Just like an automobile, weapons should be registered with the federal government and every year the owner must pass a weapon safety test

There are already background checks. And they are only as good as the state and federal agencies the make sure the data that is collected is entered properly. The fed and state have already admitted to failing on the background check on the church shooting. They are the ones to blame. Do you really think criminals care about laws?

How many felons go to gun stores to buy their weapons? Oh right, none. We already have enough background checks between us, a permit and our guns. We don't need one for ammo too

Hello, what criminal is going to go to a gun store (which does background checks) to purchase a firearm. None is the answer.
