senate Bill S. 534

Should Federal Agencies Be Prohibited From Funding Obama’s Executive Action On Immigration?

Argument in favor

President Obama’s executive actions on immigration were beyond the scope of his authority. States and federal judges have already temporarily blocked their implementation on those grounds. Federal agencies shouldn't spend taxpayer dollars on programs that courts believe were implemented improperly.

Argument opposed

The President was well within his authority when he announced his executive actions on immigration. The undocumented immigrants in question are people who have contributed to the U.S. in immeasurably positive ways — they deserve to live, work, and prosper here without fear of deportation and with a path to citizenship.

"I continue to believe that the best way to solve this problem is by working together to pass that kind of common sense law. But until that happens, there are actions I have the legal authority to take as President — the same kinds of actions taken by Democratic and Republican presidents before me -– that will help make our immigration system more fair and more just." We need immigration reform. What happened to Ellis Island? The 20th century was the most progressive century in human history. We need another Ellis Island. We need immigration reform now.

Obama's executive orders on immigration are unConstitutional! He has shown his disdain for the Constitution, for Congress, and indeed for AMERICA practically every day he's been in office! Federal agencies and members of Congress who aid and abet his lawlessness are accessories to Obama's crimes against America, IMO. I'm really angry, because not enough people in Congress and the courts are standing up for the rule of law, the Constitutional system of checks and balances, and for American CITIZENS AND OUR RIGHTS! Obama gives, giives, gives to ILLEGAL ALIENS AND MUSLIM "REFUGEES" and takes, takes, takes from the American people. And he's armed every single federal agency to the teeth, all the while doing everything in his power to create civil unrest! We have A REPUBLIC, IF WE CAN KEEP IT! And I don't think we can keep it without God's help! You tell ME why we've elected so many corrupt officials! Not only at the federal level, but at every level of government! Just subscribe to the FBI emails and SEE how much greed and abuse of power goes on! People, we need to pray for America and work HARD to raise the MORAL STANDARDS in this country! Then maybe we'll get GOOD and WISE people in government! God save America!

Limiting the powers of the Executive this way is a dangerous precedent making that office unable to function.

The Executive cannot be allowed to do whatever he, or she wants because they don't like the law or the decision (s) of Congress and the Constitution/people. This was the message sent in Nov. 2014. Ignoring or ignorance of the will of the people should not save candidates or parties in future elections from severe punishment. The populace is represented by congress so that our desires will become law. This cannot be end run around existing law by the Executive just because they have a different opinion; even if they believe that they are 'saving us from ourselves'. The implication that the executive knows what is best for us despite what we legally ask our representatives to do is not only an insult; but one must seriously question the motives and patriotism of the Executive. The Executive should be prosecuted for this lawless behavior and totally disregarding our Constitution. This should apply to any President not just the current one. Penalties for commission of this degradation of our system should be personal and severe; without regard for who it is. If these safeguards are already in place they need to be enforced; if they're not in place, they should be put in place immediately!
