senate Bill S. 477

Should Congress Stop Funding Operation Choke Point For Targeting Guns and Ammunition Businesses?

Argument in favor

It is wrong for the federal government to discriminate against legitimate businesses that respect the law simply of their industry. Allowing Operation Choke Point to continue would allow future administrations to target industries they dislike.

We shouldn't be targeting the second amendment at all. It seems as if some have read over the "shall not be infringed" aspect and continue to push for exactly that.

In my opinion, it is absolutely ridiculous that the government would target a legal law abiding industry because of its supposed risk of fraud based purely on reputational risk rather than actual evidence that would flag it as a concentrated area of fraud and money laundering.

Argument opposed

The guns and ammunition industry was rightfully a target of Operation Choke Point, and money laundering is a significant problem. Presidents should be able to dictate policies through the executive branch agencies as they see fit.

Congress & the courts have favored the gun manufacturing industry for decades. The U.S. has the highest murder & suicide rate in the developed world. A well regulated militia did not mean a population armed to the teeth in schools, churches & all public spheres. Anything that can be done to limit the number of weapons in the general population should be done. Grow a pair & stand up to the NRA! cowards...

People, and most notably, CORPORATIONS & BUSINESSES, that commit CRIMES, should be held accountable for those crimes. This has become a political ploy only because the GOP likes to make it seem like anything having to do with guns, is an assault on 2nd amendment rights. NO ONE IS TAKING YOUE GUNS AWAY, relax. Don't be such an idiot.

We need to do anything we can right now to help small businesses, and most gun shops, even the franchises, are relatively small businesses when compared to the larger corporations that control the economy. Making it easier to keep merchandise on their shelves will help the economy and the working class. Also, especially in my state, the government makes a bit of money on taxes and fees when buying guns and ammo. More transactions means more revenue. Criminals aren't buying their weapons and ammo at gun stores, they are using the black market. We need to help small business and entrepreneurialism if we want to get back to the foundation of what this country stands for and believes in. Gun Control Bills only affect law abiding citizens, not criminals. I wish more politicians understood that. Most Americans want to make a decent living and have a few amenities to enjoy their hobbies. Don't hurt the people that put you in office.

The Federal Government using its power over independent and legal businesses, if you think about that in that context how can you be for choke point? It is not the governments job to pick winners and losers in business or try and shape social agenda. What if the roles were reversed and the government treated social services, abortion clinics, or another leftist agenda this way? It's wrong that is not governments job, period! Support for this, is support for less liberty and more tyranny.

The federal government has placed far to high a burden on society in an attempt to fight money laundering. The government should focus on fighting crime instead of fighting legitimate business in a failed attempt to cut off funds from illegitimate actors.

A LITTLE GUN HISTORY In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated. China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated. Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. 56 million defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens. Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late! The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson. With guns, we are "citizens". Without them, we are "subjects". During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED! If you value your freedom, please spread this antigun-control message to all of your friends. SWITZERLAND ISSUES EVERY HOUSEHOLD A GUN! SWITZERLAND'S GOVERNMENT TRAINS EVERY ADULT THEY ISSUE A RIFLE. SWITZERLAND HAS THE LOWEST GUN RELATED CRIME RATE OF ANY CIVILIZED COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!! IT'S A NO BRAINER! DON'T LET OUR GOVERNMENT WASTE MILLIONS OF OUR TAX DOLLARS IN AN EFFORT TO MAKE ALL LAW ABIDING CITIZENS AN EASY TARGET.

Any and all laws that violates the second amendment should not be allowed whatsoever. Most people don't know that the word "infringe " means "to limit "(short definition ) in my lifetime this definition has had the word "wrongly " added to the definition, when in fact any and all limitations are "wrong".

Choke Point is an overreaching scheme to emasculate the Second Amendment by a statist oligopolistic government that refuses to be reined in by law. It's supporters need to be ousted by charging them with some form of treason.

Focusing on the gun industry as being high risk for money laundering is another underhanded government ploy to further their anti gun agenda. If you need to investigate high risk industries then why not focus on the banks, money lenders, corrupt billion dollar industries, Wall Street and politicians? This is our government wasting our hard earned tax dollars to further their personal interests against guns, and against the constitution that they swore to uphold and defend.
