senate Bill S. 46

Basing Foreign Aid To Mexico On The Number Of Illegal Border Crossings From There Into The U.S.

Argument in favor

The Mexican government needs to cooperate further with the U.S. to prevent illegal immigration. Reducing financial assistance will incentivize them to move to action.

It's ridiculous that the country dumps their excess on us and receives our assistance. So far, the only enterprise that keeps out illegals is the border patrol.

I think this is a good starter point. If I invite a friend over for dinner and 15 others show at the door, I don't have the extra food or space or money to feed them. If they wanna come then they are going to have to fork up some cash to help. This is what happens when we stopped actively enforcing our borders and immigration policies. Time to step back and get back to basics for awhile until this issue gets under control. On another note for liberals. See, it is possible to make an opinion with out using vulgar language or name calling or bashing the other side. Try it. You might feel adult like.

I know that La Raza and others like to fantasize about an open border between the USA and Mexico, but I'm against it. My knee-jerk reaction is to say that Mexico shouldn't get a DIME of foreign aid from America, until they get SERIOUS about respecting our NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY!! I'm sick and tired of the Mexican Mafia and other dangerous gangs, drug cartel members, Muslim terrorists, and other ILLEGAL ALIENS thinking that they can just invade America at will! They come here, commit all kinds of heinous crimes and are a burden on the taxpayers, who have to foot the bill for all of the freebies that Barack Hussein Obama, our Communist POTUS, likes to lavish on them. It's not that I dislike foreigners. But I DO RESENT the liberal mindset that says it's a good thing to REWARD CRIMINALS! Make no mistake - if someone broke into your home and started taking your belongings and mistreating your family, you'd be calling the cops just as fast as your fingers could dial 911! Well, why is it so hard for liberals to apply that same principle to the people who thumb their noses at our laws and our national sovereignty?! They don't DESERVE to be REWARDED! They need to be deported, and if they come illegally again, they should be put in prison for a long time. So, please make it crystal clear to El Presidente de México that we're not going to keep doling out foreign aid unless the Mexican government starts acting like a good NEIGHBOR and starts doing their part to stop illegal immigration into our country!

Argument opposed

Why is this bill picking on Mexico? Plenty of people for many more countries than our southern neighbor illegally cross into the country. This is a bandaid on a deep bleeding need for immigration reform.

The reason we have so many immigrants coming from Mexico is because of the dismal economy and the high incidence of violence there. Cutting aid won't help, we need to advise the Mexican government and allow the Mexican common people to reclaim their country.

This is one of the dumbest bills I've seen. Typical GOP move: waste time on this crap; avoid long overdue immigration reform.

    IntroducedJanuary 7th, 2015

What is Senate Bill S. 46?

This bill would reduce financial assistance from the U.S. to the government of Mexico by $1,000 for each illegal border crossing from Mexico into the U.S. The number of illegal border crossings would be based on the estimated number arrived to in the previous financial year.

While the bill and its sponsors aim to stand staunchly against illegal entrances into the country, the following fund could be exempt from this reduction under the discretion of the Secretary of State:

 - the International Military Education and Training Fund

 - the International Narcotics Control and Law Enforcement Fund

 - the fund to carry out nonproliferation, anti-terrorism, de-mining, and related programs and activities.

Impact

U.S. taxpayers, border communities, people in Mexico, the Mexican government, and U.S.-Mexico relations.

Cost of Senate Bill S. 46

A CBO cost estimate is unavailable.

More Information

Of Note:

The exact number of illegal border crossings is unknown, but the number of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. as of 2011 was estimated to be 11.1 million.

Mexico reportedly received over $50 million in aid in 2013.

Official Title

A bill to reduce the amount of financial assistance provided to the Government of Mexico in response to the illegal border crossings from Mexico into the United States, which serve to dissipate the political discontent with the higher unemployment rate within Mexico.

One of the main things we fund internationally is anti-terrorism measures. Should we really be making the U.S. more vulnerable to attack?

Illegal immigration is a failing of the U.S. federal government. They could solve the problem, but won't. Just deny government services and employment to illegals, and they'll go home.

Mexico currently has no incentive to stop illegal emigration nor punish accordingly upon deportation. This bill would give that incentive, and it would no longer be only the US's responsibility to stop illegal border crossings.

Excellent idea! President of Mexico has excoriated America in the past for limiting the amount of Mexicans who want to enter the US. Therefore, Mexico should receive consequences of not creating infrastructures that attract and retain her citizens, rather than encourage them to enter America illegally and chastise US for wanting to secure borders.

If Mexicans want to get out of the country so badly, obviously Mexico isn't using foreign aid effectively. That money could instead go to better healthcare for Veterans, scholarships for students, or funding government projects that create jobs.
