senate Bill S. 3585

Should the U.S. Invest in Natural Gas & Electrical Infrastructure For NATO Allies?

Argument in favor

Europe’s dependence on Russian energy makes it susceptible to Russian manipulation and coercion. Helping our European allies diversify their energy sources will help them become less beholden to Russia, benefiting both regional and global security.

In the form of loans and knowledge? Sure, how does this hurt us? It only enriches our relationship. China has been doing this all over Africa. If we don't bolster up our allies, we won't have any.

Argument opposed

Investing in new energy infrastructure and projects in Europe likely won’t break Russia’s current dominance in the market, because Russian exports are cheap and readily available.

Uh NO?!?! Not only do we not have money for that, we’re trying to move away from fossil fuels, remember? Even if we gloss over our own crumbling infrastructure, why would we build more fossil fuel dependent systems when sustainable energy systems achieve the same goal? This is all kinds of stupid.

It’s past time to move on from primitive fuel sources. We have the knowledge and technology for clean energy. Not only do we need to use it, but help lead the world to a cleaner future.

Spend our tax dollars here or give them back to the citizens! Stop sending our money overseas.

Why is it everyone on here is so short sighted that they don’t understand that NATO is important to keep us ALL OUT OF ANOTHER WORLD WAR & TO COOPERATE TO STOP CONFRONTATIONS LIKE FROM RUSSIA. Helping those NATIONS with their clean electrical and gas infrastructure thru businesses or workers would only help our country. Those countries do NOT HAVE THE OIL/GAS RESERVES WE DO. Any US Government money spent should be on a LOAN so that we get reimbursed for our money spent

It will not help break Russia's influence in Europe. Plus we need to be updating and worrying about our own infrastructure.

No. First ensure the infrastructure here in the USA is good. Then we can think about other place‘s challenges.

Take care of America first and start fulfilling all the promises you have made to US voters/tax payers. Getting the wall funded to protect our boarders would be a good place to start. All the money (millions) spent on protecting our boarders from the tens of thousands trying to rush our boarders could have been put towards funding a wall. We are funding an out of control government with out of control spending habits, slush funds, and paying for 63% of immigrants here to live off of welfare programs. Take those dollars and fix the problems here at home.

Not until we fix our own issues. If we can afford to spend on others, why not put that money to work for us first. It’s like a parent taking care of other children that aren’t his own. Take care of your own first, then worry about everyone else.

Nah. Renewables only from now on. We’ve all heard the climate assessment and know how doomed we are if we don’t take steep action right now

This is a big government give away to natural gas companies disguised as diplomacy. Stop supporting dirty energy and start investing in clean energy. If we have money to build energy infrastructure for other countries then how come we don’t have money for domestic needs? Support clean energy and communities in the U.S.

Need to invest in US infrastructure right now. We should be spending every dollar possible on our aging and crumbling infrastructure. Once we get ourselves fixed, THEN we should offer aid to others.

Bad enough you want to take money out of our pockets and our communities to send it abroad, but then to send it to EUROPE of all places. Inexcusable. Let them invest their money and let us invest ours. Better yet, stop taxing it away from me and let ME decide where and how to invest my own.

When our gas, electric, sanitary, and transportation infrastructure is up to modern standards we can look into helping other countries. We already spend billions on foreign aid.

No, simply because we need more investments in renewable energy - solar, wind, & wave energy. Let’s invest in the future instead of increasing fossil fuel industries. Clean, renewable energy should be embraced by every nation.

No. We need to invest in our own infrastructure first. We need better diversification of energy sources, and sustainable ways to use those sources such as efficient transportation systems.
