senate Bill S. 2519

Should Flavored E-Cigarettes be Banned?

Argument in favor

Flavored e-cigarettes and vape products are too appealing to youth, creating a new generation of nicotine addicts. This is a public health emergency, and banning flavored e-cigarettes — which often cause teens to try e-cigarettes out of curiosity about the flavors — would go a long way in helping stop this epidemic.

Anything that delivers the poison called nicotine should be banned as a health risk to the American public.

What is the point of making a highly addictive drug more palatable? It’s to get more addicts because $$. Shall we candy coat heroin? No way. If it tastes awful and the nicotine drug addicts still do it, well so be it. Everyone has got the right to kill themselves their way, but no need to make it attractive to anyone. PS. If you swapped from cigarettes to vapors, you did not “quit smoking”, okay? You just changed your drug delivery system. You are still taking nicotine. You are still inhaling. You are still filling your lungs with particulates. If somebody switches from crack to powder cocaine, they are still a cocaine addict. So stop the fucking delusional pride. You are still a nicotine drug addict. Because “quitting” means you STOP TAKING THE DRUG.

The incidences of young people being hospitalized with lung complications are slowly creating the next epidemic!

Argument opposed

The vape-related hospitalizations that have occurred in recent months are related to black market products, not vapes generally. In light of this information, this bill isn’t needed. It would unnecessarily punish vape companies and vape users by banning flavored e-cigarettes, harming both the industry and those who turn to e-cigarettes as an alternative to traditional cigarettes.

Legalizing marijuana federally is much more important. Vaping has been around for a long time, counterfeit THC carts with vitamin E and other carcinogens are to blame for sickness.

If you will ban vape , ban cigarettes as well. I thought liberals were about people having choices and not denying something to them that is not even a drug !

We all have the right to chose how we treat our bodies. If a doctor could not convince you to quit harming yourself, well the Federal Government has no right to intervene. And neither does any one else, except someone who loves you.

Sensible moderation is the key. Government needs to stay away from trying to protect the overindulgent because it’s an excuse for people to take no responsibility and then expect government to reward them for their foolishness.

I do not appreciate being treated like a child by my government. Any politician whom does not understand that this is the government attempting to absolutely overstep its authority will not be getting my vote. That’s my bottom line.

These items should not be banned. Just enforce T21, vape shop only sales, online age verification, and ban closed pod devices like juul that appeal to kids because of its ability to be hidden easily.

E-cigarettes have been around for many, many years. It wasn’t until marijuana was legalized and vitamin E was added into the mixture of CBD oil that we began to see illnesses. DO THE RESEARCH and stop blaming flavored e-liquid. If any of my reps support this bill, you will lose my support and the support of a huge vaping community. We HAVE DONE the research!

Did we learn nothing from prohibition? What’s the best way to get people to read a book? Ban it. Also flavors are not the issue here. Nicotine is. I personally know several people who have used vaping to successfully quit smoking and wean themselves off of nicotine. While the health effects of vaping haven’t been studied very long, this is America, where we are supposed to be free. Let people choose.

If banned, they will go underground. They should be made available to those 25 years and older. Why 25? Greater maturity brings better decision-making.

Prohibition doesn’t work as we have seen with Tattooes, Alcohol, Marijuana and other illegal Drugs. It just makes them more dangerous because it brings them to the black market where there is no overhead to make sure what’s going into the product to make sure it is safe. Reasonable Regulation to keep it out of our youths hands should be more important than just throwing something to the black market where there is no regulation at all. Flavors help adult quit because they disassociate your senses with combustible tobacco, making it less appealing. Flavors save lives. If you don’t smoke don’t vape and if you do smoke Try a flavored E cig it may just save your life!

Absolutely not. Unless you are going to ban flavored cigarettes and cigars, flavored alcohol, and flavored marujuana products after that. Look, this is coming from someone that doesn't smoke or vape, doesn't drink, and doesn't use marijuana, even though I could get a prescription for it. I chose not to do these things, but I'm not about to tell others what they can and cannot consume. This is what freedom is about, right?

NO. Another manufactured crisis. The fear-mongers are working overtime to make problems where none exist.

It makes absolutely no sense to pass this bill, which was obviously written by the tobacco lobby. Just let people live their lives without regulating every single thing they do.

While I agree that there may be a problem in some communities regarding flavored vapes, making them illegal is not the answer. We cannot police our way to a society free from toxins and addiction. Anything relating to addiction should be a mental health issue, and not criminal. This also screams of appeasement over fear-mongering. Why don’t you look at the science behind it all to realize that if you were truly acting out of our citizen’s best interest, you’d be banning direct contact to tobacco products (aka cigarettes). Companies such as Juul have been cleared by the CDC from all of the allegations made toward them. Nicotine is still not “safe” by any means, but let’s not do all of science a disservice by succumbing to fake news. Perhaps if you just go ahead and legalize weed, people wouldn’t be using black market THC pods with Vitimin E which was the real culprit of this nonsense. People ultimately IMO have the right to put whatever they desire in their bodies, and we shouldn’t be constantly trying to be a nanny state controlling their ability to do so. I am not in support of this measure

An adult has the right to put whatever they choose into their own body and at the same time they should be held responsible for the choices that they choose. The government’s job is to defend against attack and protect our rights not keep us from making bad decisions.

Adults like flavors and want flavors to stay away from cigarettes. The vapor industry is not Juul and not big tobacco. The vapor industry is made up of small mom and pop companies. 166k jobs will be lost if flavors go away. Place all vapor products in adults on establishments

We as adults that vape don’t want it to taste like a cigarette. We quit combustable cigarettes by using flavored vapes. And the last think we want is to taste cigarettes. Vaping was intended for adults to be able to get off combustable cigarettes.

Flavors are not the issue. Flavors help many people commit to quit smoking. Banning flavors will not fix anything, it will make things worse. Starting unsafe Black Market sales. Shutting down small businesses that actually follow FDA regulations and make sure the products they carry are legitimate. A flavor ban will not stop the youth from wanting to get their hands on things they can't have. This was the case with cigarettes before vaping. CIGARETTES DON'T TASTE GOOD! But the youth still uses them, why? Because that's just what youth does. Small business vape shops are more proactive about making sure there are absolutely NO SALES to MINORS than anywhere else, including gas stations and online. A flavor ban is not helping the youth but it is punishing adults who have worked hard to make a major life change to improve their health by quitting smoking. BANS CREATE PROHIBITION. There's still flavored alcohol out there and that's not being considered to ban. There are so many other more serious issues out in the world that should have focus on, but instead it's about vaping, which most don't care to do their own research about. Instead people just listed to false news and make their presumptions based upon everything they hear. That is not fair. Vote NO!

Data shows adult smokers quit with fruit and dessert flavors more successfully than other options. Also that vaping is 2x as effective as fda approved therapies. Taking flavors away from adults means some will return to smoking and others will never make the switch. Overall a ban would be bad for public health and cause more black market options, more disease, death, and loss of quality years of life for many. Please do not ban flavored eliquid.

It is an adults right to choose. Youth vaping is not endemic due to flavors but instead kid being kids as well as adults not following the laws when selling to minors. Enforce the current laws that state minors are not allowed to be sold nicotine containing products and leave products on the shelves that are meant for adult consumption only.
