senate Bill S. 24

Should Federal Employees Receive Back Pay ASAP Once Gov’t Shutdowns End?

Argument in favor

Federal employees should receive their back pay as soon as possible after federal shutdowns end — this will help them make ends meet and make shutdowns less stressful for these public servants.

Government employees should not be penalized for the Trump shut down.

As I understand it, many of them have been required to work during the shutdown. By law, an employee must be paid for time worked...the Federal Government should be no exception!

Real Americans are hurting. People may lose their houses, go hungry, or not get their meds. Hurry up and get the government open. Stop holding a million American families hostage over this stupidity.

Argument opposed

The federal government has never failed to pay federal employees their back pay after previous shutdowns, and there’s no reason to think it’ll fail to do so this time. There’s no need for this legislation.

Only those who worked should receive back pay. Why should anyone who did not work get back pay?

Only the people who worked should get paid for their time. If you don’t work you shouldn’t get paid.

They should be paid TODAY. Fund The Government. Tell Trump that play time is over and it is time to get to work. We cannot wait around until he feels like bargaining in good faith.

I am pretty sure that if I were one of the workers impacted by the Trump caused shut down an expedited paycheck would be gladly accepted. It's extremely unfair that federal workers receive no pay yet congress receives full pay during a shut down. Especially when congress could put these people back to work if they wanted to.

Please open our government now. My family depends on my income from each paycheck to make ends meet. We’re feeling the pain from the shutdown. This is urgent.

More importantly, to prevent this sort of bullying tactic going forward. Suspend all pay, benefits and vacation of the Senate and Congress UNTIL this is resolved, or if budgets aren’t balanced. Also, remove the word should from the English language.

There is no reason to penalize government workers for something completely beyond their control. This is on Trump and Mitch McConnell!

This shut down is ridiculous. Federal workers should not be screwed over because Trump is throwing a temper tantrum. Federal employees should absolutely receive back pay once the shutdown ends.

Yes, even if they aren’t working. It’s not like they ASKED to be furloughed!

First off there should have never been Trump shut down. However since the whining baby has done this yes this should be #1 priority. Many are suffering including all the American people who are at risk in many ways but, mostly our Federal employers. #OpenUpTheGovernment. #BoarderSecurityIsNotTheWall

Only the employees who worked should get paid. The rest should get another job. Nonessential positions should be terminated, they are wasting taxpayers money.

These Federal workers should never have had their pay withheld in the first place! Quit using Americans as helpless pawns because they will not be helpless in the voting polls against the GOP.
