People should have the right to use whatever substance they want on their own bodies. It's their property, so it's they're responsibility. Not the governments. Marijuana needs to be decriminalized on the federal level so that States can truly decide for themselves, such as what happened with prohibition.
Prohibition failed due to increased crime and drinking while the demon in the bottle was illegal, we even ended up with people hiding flasks in boots, hence where the term bootlegger came from. The mafia sold booze in speakeasies during that time in the back of mob-run soup kitchens and even with the crime in the streets, many saw the mob doing more to help the people than the government, back then booze was in high demand because it was illegal and thus the price of alcohol was high. Upon repeal, crime rates went down, the mob no longer found speakeasies profitable, and we had less drinking since there was less demand for booze. We even ended up with safer vodka as a result. Now on to this bill, pot is in high demand because it is illegal so we have a climbing number of stoners and as a result a high prison population. If pot were made legal, we would get a lot more laid-back people and the police can then focus on dealing with violent crimes like assault and rape.
I use marijuana for focus, due to being bipolar and having PTSD. Marijuana helps me sleep and clears up any nausea that occurs. I started at 60. It definitely should fully legal in the federal laws. It is absurd and just as crazy as the person holding the presidential seat, to have legalized alcohol and nicotine, two of the most dangerous things one could do; while having a battle over the legalization of a mostly harmless and beneficial HERB! Ludicrous! 😡 - Remind you of anyone?
Making Marijuana legal can effect illegal drug activities across the country, potentially create many legal jobs for American citizens, and if taxed just like cigarettes can provide a huge source of funds for our government.
Marijuana has many health and financial benefits for the government and the people of the US. This is an issue that has been proven by many scientists and analysts to be only helping the parts of the world with legalization.
We need a complete overhaul of our drug policies. We have naturally occurring substances outlawed, and why. From my experiences and research, I have found them (when used appropriately) to be more affective than artificial substances. Even though making them legally prescribed does help, it’s still not really enough. If a plant grows wildly or a fungi grows wildly on cow poop, why should the government say they can’t be used as they have for hundreds of years. We can look at a history with a result of hundreds and thousands of years of documented use of naturally occurring substances without physical harm, and enormous benefits. Our modern medicines, which are legal can’t say that. It’s time we look at our history.
So much money is spent on enforcing the laws of this prohibition. Why? Prohibition does not work. We can put the money to better use, like education and job training. Let people get high if they want to. More importantly, stop blocking people from getting this medicine legally.
Let adults make a choice. Stop the outdated thinking and allow adults the opportunity to have an option to alcohol. I don't use it but I don't drink neither give it a chance. Most people that do are not criminals. They work pay taxes and vote. Yet they are becoming victims to an outdated culture. There are other more dangerous drugs today. People need help from the medical benefits. The policy was racist and harmed too many families, and I saw the harm directly.
