senate Bill S. 16280

New Republican Healthcare Bill: Senate Version

Argument in favor

Obamacare has failed to fulfill its main promises to the American people — that health insurance would be affordable for all and that consumers would have the choice of keeping their doctor. This bill repeals and replaces Obamacare with a patient-centered system that will create more options for consumers at an affordable price, while assisting those who need help paying for their insurance and cutting taxes that inhibits economic growth and healthcare innovation.

Why don't we look at making healthcare a not for profit and develop a single payer plan? The current system allows insurance companies to keep 20% of the premiums for administrative costs. Medicare has about 5% for administrative costs. If the insurance costs are 1 trillion and we could save even 10% of that in administrative costs, we could save 100 billion dollars. I think that is more than enough to cover those that cannot afford insurance. Of course the CEO's and upper management would loose their multimillion dollar annual salaries. This still would not make everyone happy but they aren't happy now.

Argument opposed

Obamacare isn’t perfect, but Congress should focus its efforts on fixing its flaws rather than repealing it and replacing it with a solution that undoes the progress it made in expanding access to affordable healthcare. Millions of Americans would lose their health insurance coverage if this bill were to become law, and it’s expected that it would increase the cost premiums between now and 2020. That’s not an acceptable solution for the American people.

To lose coverage for 22 million Americans is not acceptable at all. It's morally inexcusable and I would feel so violated if the senators I helped elect would allow such a bill to pass. Please do not pass this bill.

This is not a healthcare bill! This is a giveaway to the rich! This should be labeled a tax bill or repeal of a tax bill. Obama care is not perfect but go back and fix what you do not like.

There needs to be transparency in ALL bill making. There needs to be an emphasis on what is best for the American people, the majority of whom are not rich. There needs to be some shouting that a bill that hurts the elderly, the disabled and children and helps the wealthy is EVIL.

Cutting Medicaid to give tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans is sickening! At least have the courage to meet with your constituency before voting on this travesty.

I just cannot even begin to understand what is going through the mind of these elected officials who are supposed to represent and protect the American people. The ACA is not perfect but it can certainly be made better if the GOP would stop putting party above its citizens and work with Democrats and Independents. Our elected officials should have the very same insurance they expect to shove down our throats. Wonder how quickly they would want a vote?

This is not a healthcare bill. CBO estimates 22 million Americans will lose coverage. Healthcare should improve access and quality and we should never go back to the days where folks with pre-existing conditions didn't have blanket protections against being denied the care they deserve. We can do much better than this tax break for the wealthiest Americans. Vote against.

This bill was created in secret by a group of rich white men who only care about rich white men. The absolutely undemocratic nature of this is despicable. How can taking away the healthcare of 22 million Americans be considered to be a good thing by anyone? But of course this isn't about healthcare for congressional Republicans. It's about their petty need to undo anything Obama did - and that's why this bill is being rushed to a vote with almost no debate. It will be the American people who suffer for this immaturity, especially women, the elderly, the poor, and those with medical issues. Something this important, that affects the lives of so many Americans should not be rushed through just to settle some awful vendetta.

I am a senior citizen on a fixed income. I already pay a lot for my health care and cannot afford the increases that will be assessed to the elderly. What in heck has this country come to. I think all of you congressman and senators should have the exact same healthcare that you want to impose on us. That would change a lot wouldn't it. Please do not vote for this atrocious bill.

This healthcare bill fundamentally wrong. Take the time to work with the ENTIRE Senate to develop a bill which will benefit ALL Americans not just the wealthy few.

To those who say it is not the governments responsibility to provide health care, it is absolutely the governments responsibility. This is why this issue is such a mess because in this country we cannot agree on the basic roles and functions of government. Until we settle that fundamental question we will continue down a very divisive and unfortunate path.

This bill is bad for all Americans. It removes the essential protections for people like my son, who is living with Cystic Fibrosis. We rely on the protections of the ACA to ensure we have adequate accessible and affordable healthcare. Healthcare is personal, not political, please treat it with care as if it was your family.
