senate Bill S. 16280

New Republican Healthcare Bill: Senate Version

Argument in favor

Obamacare has failed to fulfill its main promises to the American people — that health insurance would be affordable for all and that consumers would have the choice of keeping their doctor. This bill repeals and replaces Obamacare with a patient-centered system that will create more options for consumers at an affordable price, while assisting those who need help paying for their insurance and cutting taxes that inhibits economic growth and healthcare innovation.

Why don't we look at making healthcare a not for profit and develop a single payer plan? The current system allows insurance companies to keep 20% of the premiums for administrative costs. Medicare has about 5% for administrative costs. If the insurance costs are 1 trillion and we could save even 10% of that in administrative costs, we could save 100 billion dollars. I think that is more than enough to cover those that cannot afford insurance. Of course the CEO's and upper management would loose their multimillion dollar annual salaries. This still would not make everyone happy but they aren't happy now.

Argument opposed

Obamacare isn’t perfect, but Congress should focus its efforts on fixing its flaws rather than repealing it and replacing it with a solution that undoes the progress it made in expanding access to affordable healthcare. Millions of Americans would lose their health insurance coverage if this bill were to become law, and it’s expected that it would increase the cost premiums between now and 2020. That’s not an acceptable solution for the American people.

To lose coverage for 22 million Americans is not acceptable at all. It's morally inexcusable and I would feel so violated if the senators I helped elect would allow such a bill to pass. Please do not pass this bill.

This is not a healthcare bill! This is a giveaway to the rich! This should be labeled a tax bill or repeal of a tax bill. Obama care is not perfect but go back and fix what you do not like.

There needs to be transparency in ALL bill making. There needs to be an emphasis on what is best for the American people, the majority of whom are not rich. There needs to be some shouting that a bill that hurts the elderly, the disabled and children and helps the wealthy is EVIL.

I think this bill is vile and evil. It was crafted by people of no morality who sold their souls to the Cock brothers. There will be people dying and they don't even care. Men are supposed to care for their loved ones . These are neither men nor are they able to love. They need to have this garbage for their healthcare. But no they have opted for DECENT care for themselves. They will all burn in hell for this. Not my President. Not my congress. Not my country.

Is it a full repeal? No? Then why are you wasting everyone's time? Gut the thing already and get the government out of healthcare, where it has no business.

This healthcare bill should be called the "NoCare" bill. It is a mean, uncaring piece of legislation. Medical care cannot be a partisan, good old boy piece of legislation.

Without the Affordable Care Act, I would have been uninsured for the last 7 years due to my pre-existing condition that previously required me to enroll in a costly high risk pool by the age of 20. If I would have been uninsured, I would likely be bankrupt after my hospitalization in 2013 & the many follow up appointments that followed. Thanks to the ACA, I have been able to get the treatment I need to continue to be a productive, hardworking member of my industry & community. Without this care, I would be unable to work & become a burden to my family. Please don't make me go back to missing days of work to attend free health care clinics towns away. Americans deserve comprehensive healthcare for ALL citizens & not just those wealthy enough to afford it.

This is a heartless bill that cuts insurance from millions of people I am 56 years old. If I lose my job i will be priced out of the healthcare market. My children who are just starting a family will have to add very expensive riders to their insurance to cover maternity services, if they want to space out their children they will not have easy access to contraceptives. I fear lifetime and yearly caps on insurance because you never know when you could suffer a terrible accident or have cancer. We as a society will be judged on how we care for the most vulnerable among us. It is not patriotic to only look out for your own needs and not care for the less fortunate.

This bill is neither about health nor about care, and is very much a one-sided bill. For all the criticisms of the ACA, at least President Obama was willing to compromise on his original plan, and meet in the middle for a more moderate plan. This plan caters to the rich and healthy, and leaves the poor and sick (who actually need healthcare) out in the cold. This bill is not, as Senator Burr has said in his Facebook post, fair and balanced. Reject this bill, and instead work on fixing the problems of the ACA.

Not a single reputable authority thinks this bill is a good idea. The only way to bring down costs is to make everyone participate in a national healthcare program. It's not rocket science. All the wealthiest democracies have it. Time for the US to look at facts not fears.

The lack of transparency is the creation of this bill and the rush to get it passed is incredibly alarming. This spells disaster for millions of Americans, but, hey, as long as the wealthy get their tax cut, that's all that matters, right?

No one should be a "consumer" of healthcare. Running healthcare on a business model is the wrong approach. Cutting federal health programs is the wrong approach. Cutting access for the sick, for children, and for the elderly should not be stood for. You are killing your constituents. We will vote you OUT!
