senate Bill S. 1502

Preventing Foodborne Illness From Poultry, Meat, and Eggs

Argument in favor

The government needs to update the regulations that ensure contaminated food products are not sold to people in the U.S. Private profit-driven food companies don't care about getting people sick, but the government should.

Very good idea, the public needs all of the help with respect to stopping unscrupulous vendors from taking advantage of the public especially the poor and also unsuspecting members of protected classes.

Argument opposed

All the labeling in the world won't protect every person in the U.S. from foodborne illnesses. Things like E. Coli and Salmonella are impossible to completely control. Tighter contamination laws would only heavily burden meat and egg producers.

You can't prevent the development of germs, they can develop in food while the food sits in the store waiting to be bought!
