What is S. 150?
(Updated March 18, 2020)
S. 150 aims to end the sale, manufacture, transfer and importation of 157 of the most commonly-owned military-style assault weapons.
Under this legislation it would be unlawful to import, manufacture, sell, transfer or possess any "large capacity ammunition feeding device," generally accepted as any device that can handle more than ten rounds of ammunition. The bill excludes 2,258 hunting and sporting rifles and shotguns by specific make and model; any manually-operated firearm; any weapon that is lawfully possessed at the time of the bill's enactment; and assault weapons used by military, law enforcement and retired law enforcement.
Argument in favor
This bill would decrease gun murders and curb illegal gun sales.
Argument opposed
This bill fails to reduce crime and impedes on Second Amendment rights.
Impact
Cost of S. 150
