senate Bill S. 1141

Do Women Need to Play a Larger Role in Preventing and Resolving Armed Conflict?

Argument in favor

Women need to play a larger role in global peace negotiations and conflict prevention talks, and this bill would lead to a comprehensive strategy that ensures they’re fairly represented in U.S. negotiations.

Women represent better than 50% of the world's population yet are terribly underrepresented in politics and government in general. So large a population must have a larger role in our global future and bring a uniquely female perspective to the table. The decisions to be made are not unilaterally male. The consequences to come will be shared by all sexes. For this reason alone increased female participation is required.

We would have had Hillary been elected. I guarantee she wouldn’t be throwing silly names back and forth with our foes thus endangering our country even more.

Argument opposed

There doesn’t need to be a concerted effort to get women more involved in peace negotiations. If they have risen to positions in the State Department or other agencies that merit it, they’ll have a seat at the table.

They obviously should. Whoever is fit to do something should do it; their race or gender shouldn't be taken into account. So, I don't think an express of Congress is needed.

I agree that the best person ( male or female) should do the negotiating. Race or Creed doesn't matter. Whoever does the best. Let's get other more pressing issues handled.

I have no problem with women assuming positions of authority in government, but they have to earn those positions just like everyone else. This bill would put women in powerful positions regardless of qualifications. That is a recipe for disaster.

Women need to play a bigger role in virtually every political situation. Period, end of story.

Women are the cultivators of life and are statistically significantly less violent. Unless this just something to make the people feel better that this is being considered and governments actually just want to continue to profit from war.. Revert back to matriarchal ideals and values to save our species.

Women have always played the role of holding families and communities together. Where it is men's historical role to charge into battle, it is women's historical role to prepare a meal and bring people to the table. At the table there is talk, breaking bread, and sharing our commonality. We need more of this.

Women represent about 50% of the US population yet only 19.6% of Congress. Congress should be reflective of the citizens in the country they represent, and this bill would help in the regard.

Gender should NEVER be a factor in anyone's suitability for any job. Replace "women" with "men" or worse "race" and it becomes plain how deeply troubling this type of question is.

I very much support this. Women have so much to bring to the table but continue to be held back in our patriarchal, misogynistic society. And if you don't believe the above statement is true please just take a look at some of the demeaning nay comments to this question. Some of these folks really have issues with women. Many others argue the best person for the job should get the position. I agree. But they then go on to argue gender should not be a factor in deciding who gets these important positions. The problem with this flawed reasoning of course is that it already is a factor favoring men. Women are half the population yet are still only afforded token representation in positions of leadership and influence. As a general rule, women tend to be better listeners, more empathetic, and more prone to peacekeeping than violence. We would be grand additions in the effort to build peace and harmony and a better world. Especially since we also know a thing or two about mediation and an awful lot about tough love. Again, women have much to offer if only we were more frequently provided the opportunity to contribute. Please support this bill.

Women as peacemakers? Ever watch women fight? Where do you think “cat fight” comes from? Besides, Hillary’s to fat to fight, let alone make cogent decision. Another reason why mother-in-laws are not welcome.

The authors of this bill are women, who are obviously delusional, if they believe that women are peacemakers. Women are the chief dividers in family, and every other social group. (No recollection of middle school or high school, ladies?) One last word: abortion.
