senate Bill S. 1

Approving the Keystone XL Oil Pipeline

Argument in favor

Creates jobs. Reduces gas prices. Reduces overseas oil imports. Private businesses should be free to act in ways they deem profitable free of government interference.

Shipping oil by pipeline is safer than by rail or by tanker truck - resulting in fewer emissions and spills. Standing in the way of this legislation isn't stopping the production of tar sands oil, and our economy could use the boost.

Already 30 similar pipelines. Not really an environmental win. There are better ways to fight. Let this be a win and owe one later.

Argument opposed

Potentially devastating environmental impact. Creates no more than 100 permanent jobs in the United States, according to the State Department.

"We should be setting our sights higher. This pipeline will not create a lot of permanent jobs. We should look towards other areas such as improving the infrastructure."

NO!!! No keystone pipeline! We cannot afford the devastation it WILL cause on our precious earth. Native people's deserve self-determination in this matter as well. They say no, we should all say no!

This is obviously a terrible idea. The Keystone pipeline in South Dakota was just discovered to have leaked thousands of gallons of oil before it was ever detected

This pipeline usurps land from US citizens and will reek havoc on our natural resources.

I would like our government to invest in more green energy. If our government made it easily accessible for most Americans to have power from solar energy or wind energy most people will go for it and would stop using so much oil. Look at all the people who have protested all the pipelines all over the United States We the People are trying to let you know we are against the pipelines and want clean air clean water and clean energy. Please answer this question what will we do when the water is too toxic to drink

I agree with the President - Why can't they use this new pipe line to re-build the Old One? Rubio, Walker,

We should not be building on Native American land!! Also, doesn't Trump's company own stock in this oil company? How is this not a conflict of interest!?! And another thing, why can we not create job by creating alternative energy sources that won't hurt our environment?

The pipeline will not create significant permanent jobs, will drive the already low price of oil down which is currently causing massive layoffs in the oil and gas sector, could have danger repercussions to the environment and shows a complete lack of respect for the native Americans who have the right to unobstructed use of the land in the sovereign nation and have risked their lives protesting the passage of this bill and countless other acts of violence and discrimination from our government throughout history.

Because Republicans now have full control of everything and you lazy bastards better get off your worthless asses and go to work for the good of the country to make America great again or you will go home permanently! That is a fact and not a threat....

Almost all the jobs created during the Obama administration have been from the oil and natural gas sector. If we want to create more jobs, and keep the cost of gas low, we need to build this pipeline.

The pipe line track runs through reserves of deep water that can never be replaced when the pipe line leaks. The U.S. Needs cleaner sources of energy and not take on the dirty business of refining and keeping the waste from shale/sands oil from Canada or any other country.

This is a threat to our public health and a contributor to climate change. We must prioritize people, not polluters. http://lwv.org/tags/keystone-xl-pipeline

Creates less than 30 permanent jobs and harms our environment. This pipeline ships oil that can increase the risk of a ride in climate temperature. No to this pipeline, no to Crude Oil.

The pipeline will be bad for the environment and we should be investing in alternative fuels instead.
