house Bill H. Res. 621

Should President Donald Trump Be Impeached?

Argument in favor

President Trump has used his office to enrich himself through his foreign & domestic conflicts of interests, obstructed justice, undermined the freedom of the press, and weakened the independence of the judiciary. He should be impeached and removed from office.

Emoluments embraced, but constitutionally banned; Political assault and violence incited; willful lying to the public about governance and policy; obstruction of justice; revealing classified information to foreign adversaries.... need I go on? ...Impeach him.

With all the hate and slander against Americans and certain people coming out of his mouth, he should not be president. No president has treated others with such disrespect or talked to and about women the way he has. Do we really want our kids growing up thinking that acting and talking the way he does is ok? Heck, no.

Argument opposed

There isn’t a sufficient basis to justify impeaching the president based on our current knowledge. Trying to impeach President Trump would be a waste of time and political energy, even if it were to succeed in the House it’d go nowhere in the Senate barring a major development.

This is really a stupid question. You can’t impeach a president just because you don’t like him. That’s what election are for. People really should do some research on what impeachable offenses are. This is what it says “”Impeachable offenses. The Constitution defines impeachment at the federal level and limits impeachment to "The President, Vice President, and all civil officers of the United States" who may be impeached and removed only for "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.”” Those also have to be done while he’s in office. President Trump loves America and puts America first so treason would not work. He’s also extremely wealthy and donates all of his salary to charities. He wasn’t going to take a salary at all but was told he didn’t have a choice. Bribery would also be a bs accusation. Just because he doesn’t blow smoke up the people’s preverbal asses and is “brash & opinionated” and yes sometimes he says stuff then has to be corrected about things he can/can’t say because he’s not a lawyer or poli-sci student but he’s not a liar. He said the same things and has for several years and he has consistently delivered on his campaign promises. If the democrats try to impeach him the division in this country will be unimaginable.

simple resolution Progress

  • The house has not voted
      house Committees
      Committee on the Judiciary
    IntroducedNovember 15th, 2017

What is House Bill H. Res. 621?

This resolution would impeach President Donald Trump for “high crimes and misdemeanors”, including: obstruction of justice; violating the foreign and domestic emoluments clauses of the Constitution; abuse of power by undermining the independence of the judiciary; and undermining freedom of the press.

If the House were to pass this impeachment resolution with a simple majority vote, the next step in the impeachment process would be a trial before the Senate which would require a two-thirds vote to convict and remove President Trump from office.

Impact

The House of Representatives; potentially the Senate; and President Donald Trump.

Cost of House Bill H. Res. 621

A CBO cost estimate is unavailable.

More Information

In-Depth: Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) introduced this resolution to impeach President Donald Trump:

“The time has come to make clear to the American people and to this President that his train of injuries to our Constitution must be brought to an end through impeachment. I believe there is evidence that he attempted to obstruct an investigation into Russia’s interference with the U.S. presidential election and links between Russia and the Trump campaign, most notably the firing of FBI Director James Comey. The president’s blatant refusal to separate himself from his businesses has led to clear instances of conflict of interest that appear to violate both the domestic and foreign emoluments clauses. And his attacks on ‘so-called’ judges and ‘fake news’ have undermined public confidence in the judiciary and the press. It’s time for Congress to take action to stop this reckless and harmful behavior by removing Mr. Trump from office and to defend and uphold the Constitution of the United States.”

After Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations involving the president, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said that impeachment wouldn’t be a priority if she were to retake the speaker’s gavel:

“Impeachment has to spring from something else. If and when the information emerges about that, we’ll see. It’s not a priority on the agenda going forward unless somethng else comes forward.”

Responding to calls for his impeachment from Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), President Trump said at a rally in Michigan:

“We have to keep the House because if we listen to Maxine Waters, she’s going around saying ‘We will impeach him.’”

This resolution has the support of 17 Democratic cosponsors.

Of Note: Rep. Al Green (D-TX) has forced the House to vote on two impeachment resolutions he’s filed so far in the 115th Congress. In December 2017 the first was supported by 58 Democrats (another 4 voted present) and opposed by 126 who joined all Republicans in tabling the resolution. His January 2018 effort was backed by 66 Democrats (another 3 voted present) while 121 Democrats opposed it along with all Republicans.

A September 2018 Quinnipiac University poll found that voters by a 56 - 36 percent margin oppose Congress beginning impeachment proceedings against President Trump.

They tried to impeach Clinton for lying about a consensual relationship, if Obama had done just one of the things trump has done, he would not have made it 6 months into office! The only reason Trump is still in office, it’s because the fox is guarding the henhouse. He and his cabinet have abused the power of the office to line their own bank accounts. As a taxpayer who pays every year, (I guess I’m not smart enough or rich enough to get out of it) but I’m tired of it and it’s time for these people to be held accountable for their actions.

We should wait for the evidence, but if his emoluments problems, or being an unindited Co-conspirator, or violations of election law, or using American foreign policy for personal gains, or misusing American troops for partisan purposes, or divulging classified information to a foreign adversary, or conspiring with Russia to win an election comes to light, then yes.

YES! This should have happened a year ago. Stop plugging your ears and covering your eyes and claiming he’s done nothing wrong. He has and you know it. Emoluments, inciting violence, corruption on a historic scale, he has spent more days in office breaking the law than he has not. Hating black and brown people as much as you do isn’t a good legal argument.

He's used his presidency to further his brand and profit off of an office that should be helping it's people as a whole. Should be, anyway. And in that particular vein, since he's been under investigation, the whole administration should be binned. How can you expect a country to follow the so called rule of law when their officials are flaunting it?
