Expressing support for support of transgender acceptance.
Recognizes the systematic and structural challenges facing the transgender community and the need for action to improve safety and opportunity for transgender people. Expresses support for such community and allies through the LGBT Equality Caucus and Transgender Equality Task Force.
Transgender people are being continually assaulted with news of local bills being proposed by conservatives attempting to restrict their bathroom use, their ability to update documentation with their new name and gender marker, and more. It has gotten tiresome. Instead of laws restricting us, how about some laws protecting us from employment discrimination, housing discrimination and defending our ability to pee.
I have many comments to make, but here are just a few: Being transgender is NOT a CHOICE!!???!!!!!!! Be EDUCATED and learn about the role of varying hormone levels on fetal brain development during pregnancy-your genitals don't magically sprout at the same and everything always works out perfect. Also, this is not something "new". People in the past were just too stigmatized by society to speak the truth of their friends or family-but not anymore! Body and mind are 2 totally separate biological systems that work together in different ways-everyone should understand that.......
