What is H. Res. 435?
(Updated July 18, 2017)
This resolution calls on the government of Iran to fulfill their promises of assistance in this case of Robert Levinson, one of the longest held United States civilians in our Nation's history. The resolution:
-recognizes that Robert Levinson is one of the longest held U.S. civilians in our nation's history;
-notes recent pledges by newly appointed Iranian officials to provide their government's assistance in the Robert Levinson case;
-urges the President and U.S. allies to continue to raise the Robert Levinson case with Iranian officials at every opportunity, and;
-expresses sympathy to Robert Levinson's family for their anguish and expresses hope that their ordeal can be brought to an end in the near future.
Levinson is a defense contractor and retired FBI and DEA agent who has been held in Iranian captivity for more than seven years. In 2013, The Associated Press reported Levin was on an unsanctioned CIA mission; White House officials, however, have denied Levinson was working for the government at the time of his disappearance. Levinson is believed to be the longest held hostage in American history.
