house Bill H. Res. 41

Should the House Formally Reject Rep. Steve King’s Comments on White Nationalism & White Supremacy?

Argument in favor

In light of Congressman Steve King’s remarks questioning why ‘white supremacist’ and ‘white nationalist’ is controversial language, the House should condemn his remarks along with white supremacy and white nationalism in general.

The moment the government officially embraces white nationalism is the moment we officially become early nazi Germany. This must be whole heartedly rejected!

Anything that has to do with hate needs to be swatted. Doesn’t matter if they are Democrat or Republican if you spout hate or support hate you need to go.

The more we officially condemn racist speech and behavior, the more we communicate the message that it is not tolerated. Officially condemn King's comments, then the Republican Party should censure him.

Argument opposed

The House doesn’t need to take the time to formally condemn white supremacy and white nationalism given that countless members of Congress are speaking out against King’s comments individually.

I’m for the USA!🇺🇸 first and foremost and as I’m a disabled Vet as well then that makes me a White Nationalist! I not a racist and I don’t put white people above people if other colors! I served with men of color especially in the 70s and early 80s when white soldiers were the minority in the Army! Never had a problem! Do to you Leftie Kooks Out there! It’s time to grow up!!!!!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Forever!!!

Obviously King and many people, including 45, don’t think there is anything wrong with “ white supremacy”. It is incumbent on the Congress to stand up for American values and denounce this vile belief.

This question has but one answer. Racism and prejudice is never right, especially in congress. If my representatives want to show they have integrety they should condemn Steve Kings mean spirited racism. Enough is enough.

It seems we no longer hold our elected officials, including our President, to any higher standard of behavior or language. I expect the people who represent me to also represent all those around me, including people of color and those that do not look like me. My question is: to what standard of behavior do our elected officials hold each? Silence is complicit approval of such statements and attitudes.

We should condemn hate speech in any and every public office. Hate speech and the policies that are implemented by those who condone divisive, hateful rhetoric or action shouldn't have a place in our Democratic process or policy making. It doesn't reflect the makeup of our community, country or constituency.
