house Bill H.R. 951

Should the Secretary of State Develop a Strategy to Bolster Tourism Between the U.S. & Mexico?

Argument in favor

Declining Mexican tourism to the U.S. is costing the tourism industry billions of dollars. For the sake of this industry and maintaining U.S.-Mexico dialogue, the U.S. should seek to encourage Mexican tourism to America and vice versa.

A new POTUS would be the simplest and best way to increase tourism in the US.

Yes. But the chance of Pompeo doing it in Trump/Stephen Miller’s anti-brown people, racist administration is ZERO. Trump just shut down tourism with Cuba. The trade war is stifling tourism from China. So, though well meaning, expecting the Latino-phobic Trump admin to lift a finger for Mexican tourists is beyond ridiculous.

Argument opposed

There are a lot of reasons that Mexican tourism to the U.S. has declined and while a strategy to boost tourism may help, there’s no guarantee there will be a noticeable uplift in tourism because the Secretary of State alone can’t do much.

Were I from Mexico, I sure as heck would not spend one peso of my tourism money in the US. I would head to somewhere I was obviously less threatened and more appreciated. The Caribbean, The EU, Cuba maybe. Tourism in the US? Good luck with that. Oh and it’s not just Mexico he would have to work on. Since trump took office tourism to the US has dropped 24.9% while everywhere else except Turkey has gone up. For those saying it’s not the State Department’s job, let me quote from their duty list: It also provides an array of important services to U.S. citizens and to foreigners seeking to VISIT or immigrate to the United States. And for those saying Mexico is too dangerous to visit, let me assure many countries have travel advisories against the USA due to extreme violence, racial unrest, lgbtq bigotry, the excessive handgun ownership in the country, mass shootings, threats of terrorism and excessive homelessness. These countries include the UK, Germany, Russia, China, Canada and the Bahamas but amazingly Mexico is not yet among the list.

Not scumbag Traitor Trump’s piece-of-shit Secretary of State. No one from this incompetent administration should be permitted to initiate any outreach other than to apologize. Otherwise, quit while you’re behind, assholes. They’ve done enough damage already. NO.

If Mexico would do something about drug cartels decapitating people on a daily basis, that might improve things. I used to vacation in Mexico regularly. Haven’t been there in several years now due to the dangers of simply traveling in that country.

Oh, yeah. This is such a timely bill. Did you happen to notice the humanitarian and medical crises at the Mexican border? That should be your prior activity before this bill comes to the fore.

Let’s get a person in the OO other than the hateful bigoted xenophobic racist we currently have. Tourism will go right back up to pre-T level once THAT is over.

No, he needs to negotiate favorable immigration into Mexico from the US. This will be sorely needed if Trump gets a second term.

What the hell? Once again do we have nothing better for the State Dept to do? In addition, isn’t Mexico rather dangerous? Between the drug cartels, kidnappings and crime maybe we would help with criminal issues instead of hotel arrangements in Cancun? This is a joke question right?

Why would any Mexican national want to visit the United States at this point? We have have threatened them, belittled them, been abusive of and murdered their people, ... . Most recently we have, with no grounds, threatened to impose tariffs that would damage their economy. Our government has created an environment here where not only are they not welcome but are scorned and at risk of harm. Why would any Mexican national want to visit the United States?

No, because it sounds like individuals from Mexico can visit if they want to and have a passport to do so already. Of course it is important that info regarding the length and timeline of their visit is notated to prevent someone trying to sneak in illegally. Let’s not give the country away

Bill sponsored by a democrat...lol. Figures he'd want to get illegals over here one way or another. I won't go back until the cartels are andele out of there.

The reason why tourism has declined is because of Donald “Mexico is not sending us their best” Trump. If we want to bolster tourism from Mexico, we need a President and a government that actually values Mexico as an ally and treats Mexicans as human beings.

If they want our money they will do their own thing. I don’t think they need help from the Secretary of State. They already got some of our auto factories, battery factories, and much more. Now all they need to do is Unionize. Then all manufacturers will go to China 🇨🇳.

Geez how much stupid stuff Democrats come up with. Seriously if Democrats would actually stop trying to destroy President Trump and America they might just understand that Mexicans living in America send 85% of all the money they make back to Mexico. So please explain why we Americans have foot the bills of all the world. What is wrong with you Liberals and Leftists? Please explain WHY.
