house Bill H.R. 871

Should People in the U.S. be Able to Travel to Cuba?

Argument in favor

The Cold War is over. The President has already endorsed rekindling the U.S./Cuba relationship, and easing antiquated restrictions on travel will strengthen diplomacy efforts on both sides.

Argument opposed

Cuba is still a repressive dictatorship and allowing Americans to travel there only lends legitimacy to the Cuban regime. Easing the travel ban could give the Castro family an chance to reassert themselves.

Traveling to Cuba does nothing more than put more money in the pockets of a horrible man. Dictators care nothing about their subjects - look at the conditions in Cuba and how many people that die trying to escape each year.

Let us not forget that Cuba was a major contributor the the missile crisis. Their leadership has not change nor the way they think. We need to keep our distance. Remember all the criminals they sent us also, thanks to Mr Carter.

When due Congressional process has worked through acceptable diplomatic channels to normalize relations with the U.S., perhaps.
