house Bill H.R. 748

Two Years of Mandatory Military or Civilian Service

Argument in favor

Would compel the American public to have a greater stake in the wars we fight as a nation. Integrates public service into every citizen's life.

I agree with the opinion stated above...it forces folks to have some training and therefore results in some productivity in their lives, all for the betterment of America's future.

This country is free and I am proud of it, but too many people do absolutely nothing productive for themselves or society while living out selfish lives. Whether it be in the civilian world or in the military some form of public service creates skills and life lessons that cannot be understated.

Argument opposed

Draft bill in disguise. 13th Amendment concerns. 2 year service is also subject to extension for a number of reasons, including “Such other grounds as the President may establish”.

How is "mandatory" civilian service not involuntary servitude? Mandatory military service for all is not any more unreasonable than it was during WWII.

Why would this even be considered? The draft is wrong, and this is just another form of it!

Mandatory national service can include serving in the military or participating in various volunteer services.

As long as it doesnt force people to die, and give people who can do more damage to an enemy with their mind is good in my books. Love the idea to get lazy americans doing something.
