house Bill H.R. 675

Raising the Cost-of-Living Compensation Rates for Veterans and Their Survivors

Argument in favor

While it doesn’t establish automatic cost-of-living increases, this bill does provide a boost the benefits received by veterans and their families for another year.

Congress needs a pay cut and the veterans need a raise. Americans rise up and tell the government this is our country and we're taking it back.

They are vets who have taken our orders obediently and done our most arduous and dangerous duty for pitiful remuneration as compared even to worthless illegals and other welfare sponges. Note this specifically references an adjustment to a COLA portion of their pay, and not the actual pay scales.

Our Veterans stood up and essentially wrote America a blank check payable up to and including what could amount to their very lives.

Argument opposed

Rather than having to approve this cost-of-living adjustment each year, the benefits provided to veterans and their survivors should just be indexed to inflation or increases in Social Security benefits so the increases are automatic.

Quit doing these half assed measures. Do your jobs and craft legislation that solves the problem permanently instead of just for 5 minutes. How hard is it to put in a cost of living increase tethered to inflation?

While this is good intentioned legislation, it is only a short term method of ensuring that our veterans receive their due compensation. It ought to be tied to inflation rates so that the cost of living is more accurately assessed.

It's called the Cost Of Living Allowance for a reason, It increases as the price of living goes up. Are you serious with this? Why is this not already happening?

Having the VA tied to the Social Security COLA makes no sense. Many totally disabled veterans watch year by year as they and their families living standards erode because their needs are different. Congress needs to address these different needs by creating a COLA specifically for VA disability.

Red tape for red tape. Archconservative representatives need to compromise on agreements that are already on the table, not make new bills to fix bills they don't want to pass.

The COLA should be the same as the retirement COLA.

YES and Social security retirees too. Our elderly people don't deserve to receive starvation wages. Shame on you.

Should be tied to inflation, but we shouldn't harm people by delaying an increase until the perfect bill comes along.

No, let's not revisit this issue every year. Let's index benefits to inflation.
