As state and local jurisdictions resist the Trump administration’s aggressive deportation policies, conflicts between federal immigration laws and sanctuary jurisdictions that refuse to honor them, local government employees are at risk of federal prosecution for obeying local laws. This bill protects them.
Sanctuary jurisdictions which violate federal immigration law to harbor unauthorized immigrants jeopardize public safety by releasing unauthorized immigrants after they commit crimes. The employees who implement those policies should be prosecuted and held accountable for breaking federal law.
