In theory, this is a great idea. I agree with a lot of the things that John Cornyn says this bill is about. Our officers sacrifice so much to keep us safe and we should not tolerate any assault on their safety. However, I have a problem with "limiting recovery of certain civil camages and fees for individuals engaged in felonies." This could be corrupted and used against families involved in cases of excessive force. I don't want these families to have a cap on what they can get from the state.

These measures already exist. New laws are neither justified nor warranted. Use existing book laws.

While I certainly want to keep our police officers safe, it's not the job of the federal government. The federal government needs to focus on things that are actually in their areas of responsibility. Very, very, very few bills presented for years now have been in an area that the feds are actually responsible for.
