States' rights or local laws should get to decide this one. If voters want more protections from gun violence than federal law allows, they should have the right to make that choice. There's no reason to overrule what the people living in the state have decided. This would enable the weakest state law to be the law of the whole country. Statistics show us that doesn't make sense, and many voters know it. Respect their wishes.
