Given that the U.S. has one of the most advanced economies and healthcare systems in the world, it should be doing more to reduce preventable pregnancy-related deaths. This bill is a step in the right direction and has a worthy goal — eliminating such deaths in the next 20 years.
While more needs to be done to reduce preventable pregnancy-related deaths, requiring the HHS to come up with a plan that doesn’t include any funding won’t work. Alternatively, pregnant women should educate and take care of themselves without relying on the federal government.
