Should the EPA Restore & Maintain Info About Climate Change On its Website?

Argument in favor

The Trump EPA was wrong to take certain information about climate change off of its website and Congress needs to ensure that it’s restored.

Yes, because science is real and the overwhelming consensus among real scientists not taking money from oil & gas is that climate change is real. Pretending that it isn't & that we don't effect it won't change that it is and we do, it will only squander what time we have left to do anything about it.

Climate change is our greatest security threat and will cause global upheaval on a mass scale. The Republican Party and current administration have decided to prioritize personal financial gain and self-inflicted ignorance over positive action. They will not live to see their failure, but my children will. There is no stopping the changes already taking place, but we can hopefully mitigate the damage through alternative energy and greater understanding of the effects of climate change. We must act now!

Argument opposed

Congress has more important things to do than micromanaging the websites of federal agencies which should be run according to the administration's wishes.

I have made my living growing plants for 40 years and have yet to see someone prove a significant climate change caused by mans activity, so, this is an unnecessary waste of tax payers money. Any environmentalists who believe in evidence based science, I challenge you to go to cornwallalliance.org or townhall.com and refute what they say.

I see many of you are posting about the "overwhelming" science related to climate change. Unfortunately, the science you are referring to is not the catastrophic climate change you imagine. The real science acknowledges that climate change exists, but that it occurs in cycles, where there are naturally occurring periods of warming and cooling. There is a lack of science supporting that climate change is man made. The information - actual research studies and books - is available, written by real scientists, if you look. Many of the individuals most of you are likely referring to (and I can only hope it's not Al Gore or Michael Mann) have been long discredited.

Climate change, global warming and whatever else they're going to label it, is a farce. There's no sense in wasting more taxpayer money on it. Drop the nonsense and let's get our budget back in the green.

The EPA’s mandate is to protect the environment, habitats and ecosystems of the United States and to maintain the health and quality of life that these provide us for today’s citizens and all future generations. It’s job is not to pander to partisan opinions: even in an Administration with as many skeptics and people who are indifferent to the potential climate impacts of human activities, the Agency must maintain its objectivity and allow hard science to dictate its stance on issues.

Certainly. To the extent that science is relevant to the mandate of any federal agency, its actions should be informed by scientists, not by for-profit corporations nor by anyone’s holy book. And U.S. citizens have a right and a need to know what their government is doing and why.

Absolutely. Climate change is real and humans have a direct effect on it. Let the EPA be led by science instead of willful ignorance.

The information belongs to the people. We paid for it and it should be readily available. If I want to know the current status of a foreign nation, I know to go check out the CIA website, if I want to know the current status of a disease, I know to go to the CDC website. If I want to learn about the environment, I should be able to go to the EPA website. It makes sense. It’s my information, I paid for it, true science should be there and easily available. Stop caving to corporations that desire money over the health of the people of the nation.

It’s called science. You don’t ignore it because you make more money pretending it’s not real.

I believe this an important issue and it is imperative that the EPA can spread awareness to the issues that are detrimental to our environment and the people. Limiting the ability of the EPA is dangerous in my opinion.

Redacting the facts will not eliminate them. As Dr. Tyson has said, “The great thing about science is that it’s true whether you believe it or not.”
