Official Title

To require Amtrak to discontinue passenger rail service on certain long distance routes that operate at a loss.

Summary

Directs Amtrak to discontinue passenger rail service on any long distance route that operates at a loss (where the total direct service costs are more than twice as great as total revenues for the first full fiscal year after enactment of this Act).
Trains can move more people than cars. They are great for people who do not want to drive long distance and who cannot fly. They are better for the environment than some other transportation options. Rather than eliminating trains, we should be trying to get more people to take them.
