Do Abortion Providers Need to Perform an Ultrasound and Give the Woman a Choice to View the Images?

Argument in favor

Prior to having an abortion, a woman should be provided with an opportunity to view an ultrasound if she decides she wants to see the images.

This gives the child a face. Abortion, whether you want it to be legal or not, is a very serious thing to do and shouldn't be taken lightly. This would be another step to insure the mother was confident in their decision.

I think it's HORRIBLE for people to WILLFULLY give their consent to let some BUTCHER murder their unborn child! When did we as a society decide that GENOCIDE is okay, as long as the victims reside in women's wombs?! The atheists and humanists talk about the "fetus," "a clump of cells," or the "zygote" to distract and deceive you. This generally happens when a woman is greatly distressed and vulnerable and not thinking clearly or thinking beyond her current situation. Such women don't stop and THINK that they are contemplating ENDING A HUMAN LIFE THAT HAPPENS TO BE THEIR SON OR DAUGHTER! This bill may help save some innocent lives, people! I'd much prefer to BAN ALL ABORTIONS, but until that happens, women should at LEAST come face to face with their child before they consent to kill it! As Countable member Will said: "I've noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born." -Ronald Reagan

Yes. My child was aborted after I made every plea to try to save my child's life. I offered to take the baby and move out of the city as well as would have no obligations. I offered up any scenario to make it work if she would only carry the baby to term. Mothers should be given the offer to see that it's a tangible living conception. I didn't have that right.

Argument opposed

A woman who is seeking an abortion shouldn’t be required to have an ultrasound performed on her, even if she doesn’t decide to view the ultrasound images.

Boy, they never let up, do they? IT'S. HER. BODY. You don't get to legislate what she does with it.

Funny how the right is all about limited government unless it involves women.

This is just another way to delay an abortion. Whether or not a person is fully informed is their own responsibility, and it is not the government's place to try and influence their decision.

No this is ridiculous! A woman should be able to just get an abortion if that is what she CHOOSES!

If a woman who has decided on an abortion wants an ultrasound, she'll ask for it. These procedures are between her and her doctor. Stop trying to force unwanted or unneeded procedures on women in this position. The odds of her changing her mind because of your interference is extremely low. I may hate kidney transplants, but that doesn't give me the right to legislate cruel and unusual punishments that prevent others from receiving these procedures.

This should be mandatory as abortion is flat out murder and women considering this act should have to view the life they are about to take so it become an in-your-face reality.

A mother should know what's giving up and, frankly, this makes it very personal.

If a woman has made the decision to have an abortion she understands what is taking place in HER body. She does not need to experience the emotional trauma of this bill, brought on by prolife bs.

Requiring this will cost more, adds no benefit to stopping abortions or the woman's health. This practice could present women that are victims of incest and rape to unnecessary emotional trivialities that could lead to depression and suicidal thoughts.

This adds more value to the physical being of the baby by physically looking a life in the face, and hearing the heart beat your whole outlook will be changed.

For things related solely to women, like pregnancy, only women politicians should have a say because only they know what it would be like. A man never, ever could, no matter how empathetic they are. Same applies for things related solely to men, which I guess could be......nope couldn't think of anything. Plus, why would any conservative want government telling a person what they can and can't do with their body? Instead of fighting for the "life" of a future baby, why not fight for the abandoned and abused children that are here right now?

If it is medically necessary a woman in this position would already get an ultrasound. Legislation requiring an ultrasound whether medically necessary or not is only invasive to a doctor's practice and wasteful of medical resources, it is invasive, emotionally manipulative and insensitive to women making an already emotionally heavy choice. This legislation is only meant to make women feel guilty. The law has no business intentionally hurting any of its citizens. The law absolutely has no business telling doctors how to do their jobs. This bill is a disgrace.

Should anyone who's anyone be forced to see the thing (person, animal, or really anything) that they effectively eliminate the life from? (i.e. Cops &a their victims/their family, a hunter & their prey, a murderer and their victim, a mother & their unborn baby)

Although I am pro-abortion, a woman needs to be aware of the sacrifice of their decision. The right to choose should be an informed choice.

Of course! The propaganda that it's just a clump of cells is instantly squashed viewing a sonogram and hearing the heartbeat singing inside your body! Women need all the information to be fully informed.

This is patriarchy on steroids! It appears to be a comfort to men without regard to the needs of women. An adult women who decides to have abortion does not deserve to be treated like the village idiot. Women are clear on what their decisions mean. Is the elected idiot who wrote this bill equally informed about the consequences of all his actions? The decision to end a pregnancy is serious & taken seriously. The concerns of men--who never face pregnancy or any of the decisions it involves and frequently fail to take responsibility for their sexual behavior that results in a pregnancy--should NOT be writing rules for women. The massive conservative Christian support of the orange Republican Predator-in-Chief is ample evidence that men with high ideals do not include women among those deserving respect. This bill is an extension of a misogyny that strangles & demeans American women's lives (thank you for your disrespect, Rep DeSantis & Sen Rubio, whose high ideals sacrifice any illusion that you see women as full citizens with the freedom to make personal decisions without government interference.)

Many arguments here say this will "make a woman feel bad." If there is nothing wrong with having an abortion, then what would a woman possibly have to feel bad about?
