house Bill H.R. 48

Prohibiting the Use of Taxpayer Money to Build the Border Wall

Argument in favor

The federal government shouldn’t spend taxpayer dollars to build a barrier on the U.S.-Mexico border, and this bill would require that all funds for such construction come from the Mexican government.

Argument opposed

The southern border is too porous, costing Americans economic opportunity. It’s also a security risk, due to drugs, weapons, and other security risks entering through the border. The border wall needs to be built, and taxpayer money should be spent if necessary.

H.R 48 - Rep. Lee’s Blocking Funds For The Southern Border Security. FYI: Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), The southern border is too porous, costing Americans economic opportunity. It’s also a security risk, due to drugs, weapons, and other security risks entering through the border. The border wall needs to be built, and taxpayer money should be spent if necessary. This is nothing more than Representative Sheila Jackson Lee following the Progressive ideology opposing the construction of of the porous Southern Border between Mexico 🇲🇽 and the USA 🇺🇸. This resistance to the construction is nothing more than the Democrats wanting to to foster the expansion of their voter base. They’ve no concern for the dramatic consequences of the increasingly flow of addictive narcotics, added by Mexican 🇲🇽 assistance, into the USA 🇺🇸. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, be advised that the Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) is taking the actions necessary to ensure that displaced persons receive the humanitarian assistance they need. I’m in agreement that the Dept. of Justice (DOJ) should appoint 100 additional immigration judges. The southern border is too porous, costing Americans economic opportunity. It’s also a security risk, due to drugs, weapons, and other security risks entering through the border. The border wall needs to be built, and taxpayer money should be spent if necessary. The need to declare a fake emergency to get funds says it all! No taxpayer money for this campaign promise. I didn’t vote for it then and I don’t vote for it now. Increased border security, yes, but get engagement from those on the front lines and figure out what works in our modern times. I’ve always lived near borders - both southern and northern. Why one and not the other? Both have their problems!

Building a wall along the border will do little to impede illegal immigration. If we are serious about doing this, we will instead hire more border patrol agents, use existing technologies like motion sensors, web cams, drones, etc. Confiscating citizen’s land and building a wall is not a good or even logical answer to the problem. It’s just a political stunt.

Wasn't Mexico supposed to pay for the wall? (Narrator voice: We all knew he'd never be able to pull it off.) Seriously, though, no taxpayer money should go to this poorly conceived, unnecessary pipe dream. Put the kibosh on it and move on to more useful legislation.

Over and over, conservatives have said that Trump is just keeping a campaign promise and since he “won” the election he’s “entitled to build it. This bill just holds Trump to his promise- his whole promise. It’s a hell of a lot better than doing an end run around Congress’s power of the purse. As the constitution says Article 1; Section 9: No money shall be drawn from the treasury except as Appropriated by law... Not by a President declaring an emergency he “didn’t have to do” because Congress didn’t move when he said jump.

The federal government has very few legitimate powers, but has appropriated vast unconstitutional powers illegitimately. This is why we have been suffering from legislative tyranny for several decades. It’s ironic that we now have a member of congress attempting to block funding for one of the few legitimate duties which government is expected to perform, and which the executive branch is obligated to execute. NOTE; Government has only one legitimate purpose as defined by the constitution, and as intended by the founding fathers. That purpose is to protect our god given inalienable rights (personal liberty, personal sovereignty, property) and to defend against those that seek to take it from us (both foreign and domestic).

It becomes evident time and time again that the taxpayers do not want the wall. We are not voting you into congress to ignore our voices. I want my tax dollars to go toward initiatives that are not just catchy campaign slogans, but instead will actually help our nation take steps forward.

Our southern border does not pose a security risk. No barrier wall is needed. Our immigration laws need work and funds are needed for asylum seeking families coming from countries where the US contributed to the destabilization of their governments.

Build the damn wall already! Americans are tired of our Federal government letting anyone that crosses our border illegally into our country and the providing them with more benefits and rights than legal US Citizens. If they cross illegally, ship them back to the most southern border of the country they left. They .must not be set free in our country. Also we must end birthright citizenship for illegals. If here legally, then it would apply, illegally, it does not. Read & understand our constitution!

I would rather have my tax money mandatorily taken out to build a wall the entire area along the southern border then pay for welfare for illegals. Sheila Jackson doesn’t have a clue what she’s talking about. The wall is to protect all of us regardless of your political opinions.Preservation of our country is at stake by allowing illegals who bring crime drugs Mayham and disease. We have enough issues that need to be addressed overseas without the threats infiltrating our country. The northern border along Canada is also an issue. I don’t want to live in a Third World country with people who don’t speak English are uneducated and expect a handout from the taxpayer. It cost our country a lot more to pay for the benefits that we should not offer to people who come in here illegally than it would to pay for the wall. Not only should we have a wall we should electrify it and if there’s any water surrounding area we use alligators and snipers. It’s time to be firm direct and relentless on this issue.
