house Bill H.R. 4760

Securing the Border, Reforming Legal Immigration, and Giving DACA Recipients Legal Status

Argument in favor

This bill makes important reforms to the legal immigration system by ending chain migration, secures the border, and provides legal status for recipients of DACA. It does everything an immigration reform bill should.

I think a lot of this makes sense. The reduction of immigrants isn’t that large (there will still be 1\3 of a percentage of our entire country coming from abroad annually —800,000), the number of green card recipients will increase on all fronts, it will remove criminals, require people that work in the US to actually be registered, and the border enhancements will deter people from making a really dangerous journey that isn’t legal to do in the first place. I don’t understand why anyone thinks it’s a good idea to just keep the status quo and reduce punishments for entering illegally. How will that help the people entering or those who are legal residents? How will the countries in Latin America change and improve themselves if the people in them rely on escape to the US as opposed to development?

Argument opposed

This bill would cut legal immigration by too much, criminalize “unlawful presence” in the U.S., and mandate that businesses use E-Verify. It’s not a balanced enough approach to immigration reform.

I want to see a bipartisan proposal. I want to see a clean DACA bill. Work across the isle to get this done. I’m not comfortable with adding 5000 more government agents or directing 90% of the proposed budget to the ‘wall’. Surely we have more sophisticated security methods than fencing in the USA.

This bill is a cruel joke. This isn’t immigration reform. It’s a xenophobic nightmare. It doesn’t even give DACA recipients a pathway to citizenship and discourages immigration in general when diversity is what makes our country stronger. Rip this up and start over again!

This is comprehensive immigration reform. This is what our country needs. Not only is it a solution for DACA, but it also addresses the current issues with the visa lottery and chain migration programs.

Nope. DACA should be handled stand alone. Give them their path to citizenship and stop referring to them as illegals. They are not.

I support a clean bill for the Dreamers that creates a legitimate path to citizenship. This issue should NOT be bundled with discussions of “a wall” or other punitive measures. I am particularly concerned by the mention of biometric security in this bill, which raises significant ethical questions regarding privacy.

The path to citizenship must be the same as my grandparents had to go through. Amnesty only advances the bad side of citizenship. There are a lot of people who want to immigrate here in order to live the true American dream.

WHY NOT THE WALL??? Firstly the Democrats were FOR the Wall before they were AGAINST the Wall...... What’s up Doc? What’s the purpose of building the wall is in my mind, very apparent, for several SPECIFIC reasons. 1). Prevention of the massive influx of Drugs into the USA 🇺🇸 FROM south of the Border. 2). Reduction of the infiltration of ILLEGAL immigrants, including criminal elements such as MS13, from entering the USA 🇺🇸. 3). National Security would be enhanced through the possible infiltration of terrorist elements from entering the country. Both the Chain Migration and Diversity Immigrant Visa Program (Known as the green card lottery) programs must be revisited and modified to correct the deficiencies found in the present legislations. Again we are seeing the Democrats Senator Chuck Schumer, along with Representative Nancy Pelosi, conducting their Obstructionist activities, trying to get things “Their Way or NO Way”. The President’s proposal of providing a a pathway to citizenship, EXCEEDS that which the Democrats wanted previously, now is declined by Senator Schumer as not being enough. The American people voted loud and clear: border security wall, end chain migration, stop the visa lottery system, deal with this crazy sanctuary city policy. This bill makes important reforms to the legal immigration system by ending chain migration, secures the border, and provides legal status for recipients of DACA. It does everything an immigration reform bill should. COMPROMISE is not in the Democratic playbook. Again it’s “Their Way or NO way”. 1*27*18.

Sorry, but the border should be protected/secured [WALL], illegals returned to place or birth/origin, chain migration ended, recalcitrant DACA illegals rounded up and given a chance of a work permit subject to every three year re-evaluating, no voting privilege, ever and a one way ticket back the their personal *sh#t-hold* if there are any violations of civil or federal law.

We give away the store in this bill. Even though the DACA recipients are worthy of concessions, we can't give away the chance for millions of other hopeful-Americans to one day come to our great country & make a go of it. We can come to a better agreement than this. And if we can't, we do our best to protect the DACA recipients in the court. Or with a different bill.
