house Bill H.R. 4736

Preventing Foreign Election Interference, Banning ‘Ballot Harvesting’, & Cutting Federal Election Grants if States Let Non-Citizens Vote

Argument in favor

This bill would increase oversight aimed at preventing the influence of money from foreign individuals and governments in U.S. elections. It would also cut off grants to states allow ballot harvesting, a practice that opens the door to election fraud. Non-citizens are prohibited from voting in federal elections because it undermines the voting power of American citizens, and federal election grants shouldn’t go to states that allow non-citizens to vote in state or local elections.

Yes. Require Real ID for voting and ban foreign donations to presidential campaigns. In 2016 Hillary received numerous foreign donations, including Russia.......

Anything that will help is better than nothing! I absolutely believe the only way Democrats win is by cheating! They stand for immortality and corruption!

Argument opposed

This bill’s online political ad sponsorship disclosure requirements aren’t strong enough and won’t do enough to deliver transparency for viewers of online political ads. Cutting off states’ election grants unless they ban ballot harvesting will ultimately make it more difficult for people to vote. Additionally, blocking federal election grants to states that let non-citizens vote in local elections is a clearly partisan move aimed at liberal parts of the country.

Beware Republican’s Trojan legislation. This bill puts a lot of positive sounding concepts together without providing details. The Trojans are hiding in the details. Moscow Mitch is a Republican turtle who has mastered the technique of poking his head out of either side of his shell depending on how it benefits him personally. He has blocked Democratic legislation that would require a candidate to identity foreign agents offering political assistance, that would protect voting processes from electronic hacking and would ensure vote count integrity- because he did not want to ‘federalize’ state election processes. Yet, this bill would deny FEC assistance for States or municipalities that have chosen to allow non-citizen’s to vote on locality issues- which is not a federal issue at all. Besides that, the FEC has not been staffed for a least 6 months and is unable to form the quorum required to vote on anything at all. In other words, if trump and the RNC want to screw with election processes they can choose to not appoint FEC members or ask appointed FEC members to resign their appointments. Putting so much control in the hands of the FEC and not in legally adjudicated determinations, effectively puts control of election processes in the hands of the party able to make FEC appointments and not a matter of law. The FARA stuff sounds good but depends on ‘processes to be developed’- way too broad and easy to abuse. The reporting of sponsorship for political ads sounds good but in practice this would either point to a PAC or a candidate’s campaign fund. It does not address ‘dark money’ contributions which can be contorted through various legal entities to hide funding from foreign states. It would be much stronger to bring back the fairness doctrine as well as at least letting Republican Senate to see the Democratic legislation that is locked away in Mitch’s vault. The only case of harvested votes being defrauded was by a Republican running for re-election who hired ‘harvesters’ to defraud voters into signing unfilled ballots which the harvesters filled out per Republican direction to swing results in their favor. There were too many people involved (who could not be ordered to not testify) to keep the illegal actions secret and they were caught. … The only case! … Helping people who cannot get to the polls, have disabilities that prevent them from using individual mail services or are otherwise limited - is a valuable service that enables these folks to be counted. Legislation directed toward addressing innuendo-loaded and never proven threats of individual harvester wrongdoing - only ensures that the disenfranchised will be under-represented when the votes are tallied. Beware of Republican Trojan Horses.

Republicans don’t pass fair voting bills. They can’t win without cheating, election fraud, and gerrymandering. Since their MO is Party Power over everything else, any bill that they put out to modify the process is YET MORE CHEATING TO WIN. So NO.

The best president ever! A stable genius, the chosen one even. He’s so humble too. The truth is he doesn’t even meet the basic requirements for a president. The excuse he didn’t get away with it is getting tired. It doesn’t prove he’s innocent, it just proves he’s an idiot. When you claim that’s just Trump being Trump, we know that. It’s just a con man being a con man. He’s not even any good at it, he’s been caught doing cons his whole life. He did violate campaign finance laws to payoff a pornstar, it’s public record. That’s how he got named Individual #1 and an unindicted co-conspirator in court filings. He did steal from his charity and he did pay $2 million because of that. His bogus university paid $25 million because it was just that, bogus. These are facts easily looked up that anyone can access. They are not the conduct of the best president ever. You’re an idiot to even suggest that.

Vote no. This bill is intended as a fig leaf for those who are known for passing Citizens United, extreme gerrymandering, and voter suppression, with very weak reporting laws, no effort to curb the billionaires from buying elections, and no real change to our corrupt system. We must repeal Citizens United!

I cannot trust my government reps to protect me, or the people of Texas, or the U.S. Constitution. Moscow Mitch can't be trusted for sh*t; he lies and obstructs protection measures daily. Devin Nunes is a pathetic puppet to Trump and Putin, who have every reason to keep elections unsecured and vulnerable. So NO, I'll look at the House bills but the Senate hasn't earned my belief they can do their jobs. I am absolutely certain the language in this bill is a smokescreen for cheating and riches somehow, because grifters grift.

Voter harvesting increases voter fraud. If people really want to vote for a candidate they will find a way. Just ignore social media if you don’t want election interference.

I have had a feeling that there is severe frauds in many communities when it comes to voting. One lady caught doing multiple voting in the same election had voted 28 times. When she got caught her answer was she had a right to vote. In Chicago the joke is be sure to vote and of course vote often. One community had more people voted than live in the city, 112% of the population voted. It was a record turnout. Most communities are lucky to get 60% turnouts. These illegal votes cast delete the real votes cast. Communities and states that don’t require voter ID, are just asking for voter fraud. I live in Louisiana and you have to register to vote in advance which require you to prove your IDENTITY and that you live in a certain place. You are mailed your voting card in the mail. You are assigned a voting station in the city based on your address. The first time you vote you must show your voting registration card and a picture ID. After that when you vote you show your picture ID. Two different people check you in and you sign next to your name in the voting station. Then you are escorted to the voting booth, the curtains are closed and you vote. After hitting the cast the vote button a ding sounds and you are escorted off the voting booth floor. Early voting you show your picture ID they print your label and put it in the book. You sign your name and the rest is the same. On regular voting day your voting station already has that you voted early. No double voting here. For those people that say voter ID keeps people from voting, I ask, how do you open a bank account, write a check, fly on a plane, go to see a Presidential rally, go to a Federal building, go though any security station, file any applications for assistance or even for Social Security? For that 1% of the people, that for those that can’t get to their local office to get an ID the local government can make special arrangements to get you a picture ID like coming to the nursing home for bed ridden patients.

Absolutely pass this bill!! Further, if Democrats are determined to have tampered or manipulation of votes trying to steal elections they should be prosecuted and go to jail!! And yes, we know they tried to steal elections in South Florida, Georgia, and other states. Not only should they be fined heavily but jailed the rest of their lives!! Only if the country separates should a pardon be considered!!

This is a good start but we need to go further to stop voter fraud. Our election process is one of the most important rights a citizen can have and must be respected and protected. Unfortunately, Democrats have denigrated our voting process with mystery boxes of ballots found at the last minute in the trunk of a car parked in an airport parking lot.

Republicans are not interested in foreign interference. They also are not interested in voting rights. They are only interested in passing a bill to restrict voting rights as much as possible, to make it as difficult as possible for young people and minorities to vote. Of course, they will then call their sham, “The Freedom to Vote Act”.

Election fraud has not been a problem in the US ever.. this bill is a waste of time and money... every claim the Republican Party has made has been proven false... The claim that Clinton received money from Russia is total bull shit... you want to make a accusation about Russia money try getting it right.. The Republican Party has received more money from Russian oligarchs through fake political pac’s... Instead of running your mouth off try reading about what’s really going on...SIX REPUBLICAN Senators had a private meeting in Russia last year... most of those senators receive money from Russia through back doors... Why would Republican Senators try to put the blame on Ukraine for 2016 election hacks when the whole world said it was Russia?

What are we doing? It is already against the law for non-citizens to vote. What we need are open to the public voting machines. We need no gerrymandering the district and really one person one vote. The popular vote should be how we elect our president Let’s really secure our votes!

Some of this is fine but I don’t agree with the ballot harvesting part. Sadly, many people are unable to drive, afford postage, have no time, etc. I will never support a bill that makes it harder for the working and poor classes to vote,
