Finish the Fence Act of 2017
To amend the Illegal Immigration and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 to direct the Secretary of Homeland Security to complete the required 700-mile southwest border fencing by December 31, 2017, and for other purposes.
Finish the Fence Act of 2017 This bill amends the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 with respect to construction of border fencing and road improvements to direct the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to complete the required 700-mile southwest border fencing by December 31, 2017. The Secure Fence Act of 2006 is amended to direct DHS, in consultation with state and local officials along the U.S.-Mexico border, to achieve operational control over U.S. international land and maritime borders by December 31, 2017.
We need to work on having good relations with our neighbor. I love less than three miles from the Mexican border in Tijuana, and I have never once felt threatened or unsafe from my close proximity to Mexico, quite the opposite. I think the transparency of our border makes our city a culturally more vibrant place. Please do not build a wall, fence or otherwise. We have better things to spend money on.
This concept is so very absurd I feel it shouldn't even be necessary to defend a vote down... I have always felt taxes are a necessary 'evil' of a democratic society, but I will NOT support my taxes going to this ill-conceived monstrosity of a joke. This 'wall' does nothing but make us look like fools to the rest of the world. Even the notion of it has damaged our international reputation! Please, this is ridiculous. This will not 'protect' us, this will not 'make us great', this will not 'save America.' This would cost an absolute fortune (hey, if we tax Mexico's imports to 'pay' for it, guess who pays? WE do!), and accomplish zero. Even the jobs it would create are temporary - a drop in the bucket. Please, we canNOT do this.
We've seen how well walls work---in Berlin and Israel/Palestine. Is that what we we are working towards? It's absurd. I think the legislators who are wasting time, ink, paper and our attention on this issue should be deported. To the moon.
This is a waste of resources, time, and money. Instead of building the wall we should focus on the core of the issue amongst other issues that we are facing. This country was founded on the ideals of liberty and justice. I see no justice and freedom in shutting ourselves and and blocking out the rest of the world.
