house Bill H.R. 420

Should Federal Marijuana Prohibition End?

Argument in favor

The majority of U.S. states have already legalized marijuana in some form, and legal marijuana sales will generate much needed tax revenue for the government.

I totally agree with Governor Polis. Colorado has proved there are more advantages than disadvantages to fully legalizing marijuana. It should be handled exactly like alcohol, taxed and decriminalized. HB 420 has my full and unhesitating support.

I am tired of my tax dollars being used to fight reefer madness ! Remove marijuana from Schedule one and legalize at the federal level!

Argument opposed

Increased tax revenue would be offset by higher public costs for health care, criminal justice, lost workplace productivity, and increased access to the drug for minors.

As a systems engineer I have worked with some brilliant people over the years. That said, I noticed over time that those coworkers who regularly smoked weed (10 years plus) exhibited a marked decline in their cognitive abilities. They began to have difficulty grasping concepts and appeared to suffer greatly reduced performance overall. Just my observation.

How many times does it have to be said; marijuana is a gateway drug to the harder drugs. No matter how you spin it the facts don’t change. #MAGA

It’s a drug that affects your body and your brain. It leads to stronger drugs. We need to stop legalizing wickedness that will destroy families and our country. Drugged people do not make good decisions. Drugged people do not make good employees. Drugged people cost more in healthcare, police, and lost productivity. Do not legalize marijuana!

The argument opposed is such ignorance it's embarrassing! It's like our lawmakers ignorance of the internet, apps, cyber security. We aren't living in the old west anymore and if you and your logic is stuck in the dark ages it's time to step down and allow the people who belong in this generation to make the choices for our changing times!! It's very sad to watch the arrogance of the Republican party as they stand ridged with their pants down around their knees.

It’s High time we come around to admitting the people that smoke weed don’t cause problems and don’t die in record number of DUIs and related traffic offenses. Not to mention the racial disparity in our drug laws which disproportionately affect African-Americans.

Public opinion polls of primarily non-users (including myself) are all we need to see. Conservatives are happy to call out government overreach until it’s an issue they — in the minority — fall on the other side of.

The scheduling of cannabis has had dire effects on our nation. It’s has put millions of people in prison while keeping billions out of the economy. Cannabis should be regulated just like alcohol or tobacco. We should also make strides to subsidize small businesses so that industries such as big tobacco and big pharma don’t take over the cannabis industry.

Cannabis is a proven medicinally-beneficial medicine for a wide range of ailments that is cheap and non-addictive. Why are we even asking this question in the face of the opioid crisis?

Once again pot shod be decriminalized and the states should institute their own controls. This is a state and voter issue. Let the people decide what is best for them.

We now have some of the front leaders in this country that believe Big Pharma is no longer the answer I have seen a war with no gain on this drug which is now been found to have medical benefits! I am watching federal laws as of April 1st Trump took the feds out of it , So all of us need to pay attention to those in public service , Senators , anyone in the Texas senate that does not agree let’s revise their terms and boot them out and start a new more informed Texas leaders in the senate and judicial house , get on board Texas or we the voters will make sure you are not in power sooner than later , I pray that the Senators or Governor of Texas hear the people not just the ones with large wallets ,Senator Patrick of the state of Texas I hope you revise your way of thinking , Big Pharma is on the way Out maybe you should be too ! Let’s all Texans vote for not against the legalization of marijuana in Texas , trust me we could use the benefits from income to more proactive health , I know that opioids and anxiety agents are so much more harmful than a natural plant so for the sake of all of Texans let’s get off the opioids and all addictive substances that Big Pharma gives kick backs on and do what the people who voted you in want ! Or when your term is up we will make sure that our options will be to remove those with out dated knowledge and close minds are not our representatives in the future !🇱🇷
