Having an explicit, easy-to-dial, three digit number will make it easier for those having a mental health crisis to seek help but also, ideally will alert first-responders to the nature of the problem which might prevent the unneeded mistreatment and deaths of those in crisis at the hands of law enforcement, which happens far too often.
