house Bill H.R. 3879

Should Taxpayer Dollars Not Fund Travel by Federal Officials That Violates Travel Regulations?

Argument in favor

Governmental officials shouldn’t be wasting taxpayer dollars using government and private jets to travel the country in an unofficial capacity. This bill strengthens rules against such wasteful spending and promotes transparency.

When we the people flaunt laws, we are arrested. Elected representatives should be as compliant as we are.

With a salary and benefits package that is well above and beyond all other Federal employees. This is beyond comprehension. I’ve said it before and I will keep saying it until someone listens. Both Congress and the House need to be subject to ALL Federal employee rules and regulations. They have Compliance and Business Integrity (CBI) education and policies in place for good reasons. That is to protect public tax dollars from being used for personal gain. That rules should be NO different in the Federally Elected positions as well.

Yes, why should we pay for them to break regulations?

Argument opposed

There are already regulations against this in place, so there’s no need for legislation — it’s a matter of bureaucrats finding the willpower to hold themselves accountable and enforce their own rules.

I have accidentally pressed against when i am clearly for #this in every way. I actually want you all impeached, if we're being honest. And Bernie promoted to president where he'd be if Russia and our broken two party system hadn't screwed us over. Stop wasting taxpayer money, get your heads out of your asses, and corporate America's hand out of your pockets before you topple what had the potential to be the best society this side of the universe. In conclusion, i know you're not really reading this rant anymore so fuck off, you incompetent dicks while i research actually impeaching you all. Or the entire GoP at the very least cause i kinda like one of my senators. Ok, I've clearly gone off the rails a bit but just in case fucking congressman griffith does read this, a tip for being on the proper side of history....seriously, just follow Bernie.

This is joke. Why not just enforce the rules in place?? Better yet - why not do what corporate America does?? Make the congressman pay for it out of their pocket first. They submit an expense report. If it is necessary it will be approved. If not - they pay out of pocket. When it hits them in their own pocket I doubt they will charge the taxpayers any longer. No government employee should be on a private jet except for the president and Vice President. End of story and problem solved.

No, the House Republicans continue to be childishly vindictive. Just make the federal officials pay the costs of their poor decisions.

How is this even a question? Isn't this why we have rules in the first place? I understand that some positions of responsibility come with certain benefits, but flouting rules SPECIFICALLY created for such persons should not be among them.

Overall, there needs to be more transparency between government officials and the general public. People want to know where their tax dollars are being allocated.

It’s a “violation;” meaning, “against the rules.” So, mom said “no.” #WeCannotFundJoyRiding

I was a federal employee for 34 years. The employee paid for unauthorized travel. However, if the management chain approved it, we were not responsible unless we were deceptive in justification.

As a former state employee who traveled, we had to turn in our vouchers after each trip in order to be reimbursed. These were for only state related audits within the state, therefore they were in accordance to state regulations. The problem with the current administration is that they have so many conflicting business interests that coincide with state and federal ethics violations. Vote yes in order to be ethical in regards to the numerous conflicts of interests this administration has gotten away with in order to “travel” in order to look like they are conducting government business.

This shouldn’t even have to be discussed. Government officials should be subject to the same rules as any other Federal employee. If they want to fly anywhere in an unofficial capacity then the money should come out of their own pockets.

You would think in this current political climate and all the talk about reducing the burden on the taxpayers of this country that those in power wouldn’t need to be regulated like this but it just shows that absolute power corrupts absolutely.
