Research shows the death penalty is bad policy: we'd save millions of dollars by replacing it with life imprisonment without parole, money we could spend working on unsolved rapes and murders. http://www.safecalifornia.org/facts

"I strongly believe that violent offenders must be punished severely and prevented from committing future crimes. However, capital punishment is not the answer. I introduced H.R. 3741, the Federal Death Penalty Abolition Act of 2013, which will put an immediate halt to executions and forbid the imposition of the death penalty as a sentence for violations of federal law."

It's an international embarrassment that the United States is one of the only major industrialized nations of the world that still permits capital punishment. The main issue with capital punishment is the possibility of executing an innocent person. Nearly 160 people have been freed from death row since 1973 as a result of evidence clearing them of their conviction. It is a moral outrage the government condones state-mandated execution. The United States is among Iran, China, North Korea, in the leading countries that execute the most people. Capital punishment is egregious and needs to be put to an end.

Death for heinous crimes is the equivalent of shooting the mad dog, Old Yeller. One who MUST be Mad, and is a danger to others, should be put down. However, since it cannot be applied fairly due to its over-politicization, it should be taken off the table. Also, it makes many outside the US see us as barbaric, which is bad.

I do NOT believe in punishing adults. When did this sadistic ideal ever work? Some crimnals, who have life in prison can emotionally grow from their crimes. While others, like Jeffery dahmer....who would masturbate into his dead victims corpse after he cut them throat to genitals SHOULD for the sake of other inmates and guards protection, as well as saving money; be kicked off the planet!

Probably. Too many innocent people turning up. Its also time to end the Death Penalty for unborn children who have absolutely committed no crime.

I do not think that we, imperfect humans, should have a say in who lives and who dies. We are not the one who gave them life to begin with. So why should we be the one to take it away? "Ye who have not sinned, cast the first stone." Jesus said this to a group of people who wanted to stone a prostitute. According to the Bible, a book we based our country off of years ago, Jesus was the only sinless Man, and only he had a right to cast that stone, but he didn't. Basically, we shall not kill. Regardless of the crime committed.

Because the same individuals who are in favor of the death penalty are insistent that un-planned/un-wanted children MUST be born, and are predominantly opposed to limitations on ownership of weapons designed for killing people in war. This is not the mind-set of a person who is truly pro-life.

We have never been an "eye for an eye" government, so to murder those who murder or commit crimes is unjust. It does nothing to lower crime or deter criminals because states without the death penalty have lower murder rates than states that do (https://deathpenaltyinfo.org/deterrence-states-without-death-penalty-have-had-consistently-lower-murder-rates). Not only that but it is costly, and the money that we spend executing people could be put towards preventing the development of criminals- investing in neighborhoods, education, and rehabilitation. Not only that but I think we can all agree that our criminal justice system is NOT perfect. Exonerated people are proof that there are mistakes made, and we can't afford to make a mistake that could cost someone their life. And for those who argue that it is a state issue, the place where you committed a crime should not affect whether you live or die.

The Death Penalty keeps murderers, spies, and traitors accused of capital crimes out of society. There is no higher punishment than that of death.

the biggest problem with the death penalty is that it takes so long to enact that the person can die of natural causes waiting to be put to death.
