Official Title

To authorize the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a special resource study of Chicano Park, located in San Diego, California, and for other purposes.

(This measure has not been amended since it was reported to the House on December 5, 2016. The summary of that version is repeated here.) Chicano Park Preservation Act This bill requires the Department of the Interior to conduct a special resource study of Chicano Park and its murals located in San Diego, California. In conducting the study, Interior shall evaluate the site's national significance and determine the suitability and feasibility of designating it as a National Historic Landmark or an Affiliated Area of the National Park System. Interior shall also consider other alternatives for preservation, protection, and interpretation of Chicano Park and its murals by governmental and private and nonprofit organizations. This study shall not consider any options involving the federal acquisition of lands, interests in lands, or any other property related to the park and its murals.
